    BBB - First 4 months...

I started on BBB 4 months ago with our new hot tub. It worked very well for us. Low maintenance, low cost, great water results. After we got the hang of it we only had to test once or twice per week. Here is where we typically kept the water: CH 190 TA 60 Ph 7.6 CYA ~20 Borates 40 FC 2 - 6...

Effect of MPS on CC test -- how long?

How long after the use of MPS will it affect the accuracy of a CC test? I've read that MPS will show up as an abnormally high reading for CC. Trying to figure out how long I have to wait before I can rely on the accuracy of my CC test. Thanks.

Is the formula for "Superchlorination" or "Shock" too high?

Is anyone trying the new formula for shocking (breakpoint chlorination) that Taylor and DuPont are suggesting in this article? Seems that the latest (2009) research suggests that the formula we've been using to determine the shock level of FC is really too high and itself contributes to the...

DPD FC Test Accuracy - best method for testing

Does the amount of DPD powder added to the sample affect the test accuracy? TFT's instructions call for "one heaping scoop" while Taylor's instructions call for adding "two dippers". The dipper isn't the most precise measuring instrument. Also, does it matter if you mix vigorously (shaking...

Target FC range for beginning of soak...

New to this and on my 4th day with a new tub. Have well balanced water. Using BBB method with a Taylor 2006 test kit. What FC range do you target at the beginning of a soak? 1 to 3? 3 to 5? I know I need to add chlorine after a soak with the amount dependent on person / hours in the tub...

When to add Borax - new spa, first fill

I filled our new 355 gallon spa and balanced the water to these readings: 78 degrees (still heating) CH = 190 (up from the tap water of 20) TA = 50 (up from the tap water of 30) ph = 7.6 (down from the tap water of 8+) FC = 8 (calculated after adding dichlor) CYA = 7.6 (calculated after adding...
