    BBB - First 4 months...

Wow. Great formula. Thanks. The first fill was November 1 and I drained it yesterday so that's 112 days. I maybe overestimating the person/hours per week. I also erred on the side of adding a little more Clorox than a little less after each soak. If I thought I was in it for 45 minutes I'd...

    BBB - First 4 months...

We probably use it 8 person hours per week. We don't shower before using it. If it's only me at night, I go "al fresco" but otherwise we wear bathing suits but we don't wash them after every soak. As we got near the 3 month mark, we had a little bit of foaming when the jets were on full and...

    BBB - First 4 months...

I started on BBB 4 months ago with our new hot tub. It worked very well for us. Low maintenance, low cost, great water results. After we got the hang of it we only had to test once or twice per week. Here is where we typically kept the water: CH 190 TA 60 Ph 7.6 CYA ~20 Borates 40 FC 2 - 6...

Is the formula for "Superchlorination" or "Shock" too high?

Perhaps you should call and ask them to explain the chemical mechanism for this difference. If they are unable to explain it then perhaps they would be willing to stop recommending it. Offhand I think it's kind of unlikely they would make that change spontaneously; somebody has to prod them...

DPD FC Test Accuracy - best method for testing

Thanks. Still fighting a lingering .8 - 1 CC that won't go away. BTW, thanks for the fast shipment of the FAS DPD test kit. Great value!

Effect of MPS on CC test -- how long?

I think I may have answered my own question. An article on Taylor's website seems to indicate you need to wait 8 hours for the MPS interference to clear out and allow an accurate measure of CC. http://www.taylortechnologies.com/Chemi ... ntentID=33

Effect of MPS on CC test -- how long?

How long after the use of MPS will it affect the accuracy of a CC test? I've read that MPS will show up as an abnormally high reading for CC. Trying to figure out how long I have to wait before I can rely on the accuracy of my CC test. Thanks.

Is the formula for "Superchlorination" or "Shock" too high?

Is anyone trying the new formula for shocking (breakpoint chlorination) that Taylor and DuPont are suggesting in this article? Seems that the latest (2009) research suggests that the formula we've been using to determine the shock level of FC is really too high and itself contributes to the...

DPD FC Test Accuracy - best method for testing

Does the amount of DPD powder added to the sample affect the test accuracy? TFT's instructions call for "one heaping scoop" while Taylor's instructions call for adding "two dippers". The dipper isn't the most precise measuring instrument. Also, does it matter if you mix vigorously (shaking...

    Eliminating CC

I measured CC at least 36 hours after the last soak and 20 hours after shocking to 16 ppm chlorine. It is a new spa. The water and spa are 2 weeks old. Sounds like a drain and flush may be in order. I checked again at 5pm and: FC: 1 TC: 4 (but this may be reading artificially high due to...

    Eliminating CC

Re: Elminating CC Quick follow up... Once I added the MPS, I turned the jets and air on high and within 15 minutes a massive sticky scum line formed around the shell at the surface. I assume that is the MPS doing its thing. How do you get the scum line off without adding things to the water...

    Eliminating CC

What else should I do to eliminate the CC's in my tub? Initial test results 11/14 @ 2pm: FC: 2 CC: 3 (calculated) TC: 5 pH: 7.5 CYA: 48 TA: 50 CH: 200 Borates: 43 (calculated) 355 gallons Leslie Complete Kit (Taylor chemistry) Shocked with 10 oz of Clorox (14 ppm) hoping to eliminate the...

Target FC range for beginning of soak...

Perfect. That's what I needed. It was dark the other night so I wound up adding 6 half Tablespoons instead of 6 teaspoons of Dichlor. So, we are waiting out a bit of FC residual at this point!

When to add Borax - new spa, first fill

LOL! Testing, testing, testing. This is so true. My kids love it as well so I have made them the official water testers. We created a simple spreadsheet to log the use, test results and our chemical additions. Hopefully we'll figure out the cause and effect here.

Target FC range for beginning of soak...

New to this and on my 4th day with a new tub. Have well balanced water. Using BBB method with a Taylor 2006 test kit. What FC range do you target at the beginning of a soak? 1 to 3? 3 to 5? I know I need to add chlorine after a soak with the amount dependent on person / hours in the tub...

When to add Borax - new spa, first fill

Thanks. It is a new tub. Hadn't thought about an early water change but that makes sense. Any reason I can't use the water on the lawn and shrubs?

When to add Borax - new spa, first fill

Great advice and that totally makes sense. I can just test the CYA once per month to determine when to use a little dichlor. On the GentleSpa -- I tried three different pool/spa stores around town and couldn't find anyone who had it. I presume online is the way to get it. The 20 Mule Team /...

When to add Borax - new spa, first fill

After 2 days of tinkering and soaking, here is where I stand -- comments and suggestions appreciated Temp = 102 FC = 10+ (big shock after family soak) CH = 190 TA = 50 Ph = 7.5 Borates = 40 (calculated) CYA = 26 (calculated) CSI = -.31 (from TPC) Water looks, smells and feels perfect. I am...

When to add Borax - new spa, first fill

I filled our new 355 gallon spa and balanced the water to these readings: 78 degrees (still heating) CH = 190 (up from the tap water of 20) TA = 50 (up from the tap water of 30) ph = 7.6 (down from the tap water of 8+) FC = 8 (calculated after adding dichlor) CYA = 7.6 (calculated after adding...
