    Impeller Reinstallation on new motor

I went out and got a 1" coupling to seat the seal in versus the other fitting that one of the video's suggested. When I used the coupling I was able to get that small fraction of an inch to get it to seat in all the way which appears to have resolved my issue. I did a test fit and powered it...

    Impeller Reinstallation on new motor

I will try to re-install the old seal in the morning. I did get the seals taken back out and confirmed they are the same heights and confirmed that the motor shaft is sticking out the same distance on both pumps. All of these were expected to be the same but checked anyway.

    Impeller Reinstallation on new motor

I took off the impeller to confirm motor worked as it should so it confirmed the motor runs fine unloaded. I then reinstalled the impeller and screwed it on until there was contact between the seals. I then went 1/8 of a turn past that to make sure the spring was engaged. I then ran the pump...

    Impeller Reinstallation on new motor

I ran the pump dry for a second to see if the motor would run but the shaft wouldn't turn. At this point I might get another motor and see if the motor itself is part of the problem.

    Impeller Reinstallation on new motor

This is the old pump. It's in rough shape but its my backup pump until I get the current one rebuilt.

    Impeller Reinstallation on new motor

The actual pump name is long gone from the pump and I can't find anthing on any housing what the actual pool name is. The filter basket cover has a part number on it so I just cross referenced that to the WhisperFlo as you suggested. I also looked at the PS-200 seal and that is different then...

    Impeller Reinstallation on new motor

I have the Pentair SuperFlo 2HP (Mine is an older model but same pump). I took out the old shaft seal and installed a new PS-1000 seal kit. After taking the old seals out I installed both parts of the seal until I couldn't push them in any longer (care not to damage the ceramic seals). I then...

    Impeller Reinstallation on new motor

Hi All! I ordered a new motor and gasket kit for my Pentair 2HP pump. When I spin the new motor shaft it is much quieter then my old motor that failed so that part is awesome! The new motor shaft doesn't spin as easily as the old one which I attribute to fully greased bearings and it being...

Pool Light Bulb Keeps Burning Out

The light has always been installed under the water level and not turned on outside of the water. I haven't checked to make sure the fixture is rated for 500W. I always just replaced it with the bulb that was in it. I can definitely check that!

Pool Light Bulb Keeps Burning Out

I have the standard Hayward pool light that is a 500W Halogen bulb. It is the metal housing that has the gasket and then a tension clamp that holds the whole thing together. My problem is that the bulb keeps burning out. There is no water in the fixture to cause the bulb to fail. It will...

    Brown Stains

We have brown stains that extend from our jets down to to the bottom of the pool. We also have a step in the "deep" end with brown stains that run from the step to the bottom of the pool. There are also brown spots on the bottom of the pool that are likely caused by environmental dirt. There...

    Capacitor Polarity?

Received the Capacitor and installed it in 5 minutes. Pump is back to full operation. Thanks for your help!

    Capacitor Polarity?

I have a 1.5HP pump (old Magnetek B2854 aka 717721624). My pump motor hums when it is turned on but will not turn over. I shut the power of at the breaker, verified that it wouldn't turn on, took the strainer out so I could get to the impeller to verify it spins freely (which it did). I then...

    pH versus TA

My plaster was refinished in 2014. I will ignore TA for now and just focus on keeping the pH correct. Thanks!

    pH versus TA

I haven't run the waterfall or the slide so there is no aeration. I try to get the pH to 7.4-7.6 but I would have to add acid every day to maintain this. I typically add 3/4 of a gallon once a week and let it drift up throughout the week. I am using bleach as my chlorine source.

    pH versus TA

My pool pH goes up constantly. I have been just adding acid but my TA goes to 50 or so. I learned about Baking Soda after reading pool school so I started using that to raise TA. I have found that when I get the pH into range, my TA is too low so I add Baking Soda. That raises my pH and I...

    2016 Muriatic Acid Prices

The bleach post was pretty interesting so I thought I would pose about Acid. Living in Houston Texas I stopped by Napco and they were fantastic. They will sell you a 5 gallon can for bulk bleach for $14, but Amazon has a better product and you can get a cap with a valve. Search "Reliance...

Mustard Algae - Won't go away even with high FC levels

Looks like I got the water in balance and shocked the pool. The chlorine is maintaining at shock levels and I suspect it will remain there for a while as the temperatures are dropping so Algae growth will slow. The pool is the cleanest and easiest to maintain since I moved in! Thanks for all...

    Filter Cartridge Pressure Rises Quickly

I'm using the TF100 test kit. i put my 90% clean filters in 8 hours ago and I only have seen a .5 increase in PSI. Looks like patients and whatever that focused hose stream part is the ticket. I plan to super clean the second set tomorrow. I suspect I will get a ton of stuff off that one as...

    Filter Cartridge Pressure Rises Quickly

The stuff stuck in the pleats started to fall off in small chunks (the dirt) and felt like slim with a slightly gritty feel. It is brown in color. I think they were just long overdue for a focused cleaning.

    Filter Cartridge Pressure Rises Quickly

I spent 2 hours cleaning the filters after looking at them very closely. I started carefully scratching the inside pleat and it started breaking loose. I went to the store and bought a fitting with a small pin hole in it to attach to the end of the hose. I then went up and down every pleat and...

    Filter Cartridge Pressure Rises Quickly

When I drained the pool I took the light out and cleaned the gasket and the fixture and put it all back together. I also took the opportunity to clean the jets, returns and anything else that typically needs to be cleaned. I performed the OCLT last night and I didn't lose any chlorine. The...

    Filter Cartridge Pressure Rises Quickly

Here is the FC 6.5 TAC 6.5 CH 250 CYA 35 TA 100 pH 7.4 Copper 0 Iron 0 PHO 500 I just did a drain and refill and balanced the chemistry. I was seeing high pressure's before the drain and thought it was related to Algae that I had trouble controlling. I read Pool School and got help...

    Filter Cartridge Pressure Rises Quickly

Hi Everyone, i have been seeing a pressure rise in my filter cartridge of 15 PSI in only 24 hours of run time. When I shock the pool or have higher loads on the filter it can last as little as 8 hours. When I soak the cartridge in dish soap and water, I spray it off with a water stream. The...

Mustard Algae - Won't go away even with high FC levels

I drained out and replaced 55% of my pool water. I received my TF100 test kit and tested the CYA at 70 now. My guess is that my CYA was well over 100 before as I expected the CYA to come down lower then 70. I am debating whether or not to pull additional water out of the pool to get the CYA...

Mustard Algae - Won't go away even with high FC levels

I ordered the TF100 pool test kit today and it should arrive by the end of next week. I'm pretty confident the CYA is high so I am in the process of draining the pool now. My plan is to let out 1/3 of the pool water and then refill. I'll recheck the chemistry at the pool store and see how the...

Mustard Algae - Won't go away even with high FC levels

I spent a lot of time reading the Pool School articles and didn't fully appreciate the interaction between CYA and chlorine effectiveness. All of the information is very useful and I can see where following the process can minimize the spend on chemistry as all the "extra's" add up quickly...

Mustard Algae - Won't go away even with high FC levels

Hi everyone, I am a new pool owner with what appears to be reasonably balanced pool water but I still get Algae sticking to the side. When I brush it, it comes off easily and you can see the green/brownish algae swirl in the vortex of the brush. I over added Chlorine when I first got the...
