New Nautilus - smells like algae?

Thanks. I don’t know what kind of algae I have. It’s not mustard yellow but normal SLAM level didn’t kill it. OCLT isn’t declining. I think I might have a tiny pocket of algae somewhere I can’t brush which might be reinfecting the pool when the FC comes down. I put the nautilus back in the pool...

New Nautilus - smells like algae?

I was having an algae problem, SLAM’d, OCLT zero, and then sent my new Nautilus CC Plus on patrol. It’s first pool outing was after the SLAM. I also have a PV3 in-floor cleaner so the primary purpose of the Nautilus is wall cleaning and overall brushing, the PV3 gets rid of most leaves and other...

    Tile separation above waterline?

I decided to try an epoxy pool repair stick (putty) first, thinking that if it didn’t work I could grind it out and start again. So far it has worked. I just used an amount the size of a walnut and set as many tiles as I could during the open time, then waited for it to cure completely and...

Has anyone tried a Ryobi Power Scrubber?

Yeah that’s one of my questions. Like, is it going to know the difference between 3 feet and 8 feet? And is 3 feet where the battery pack is or where any part of it is? My Wife got it for me as an Xmas present so trying to decide if it will be useful or if it’s a return.

Has anyone tried a Ryobi Power Scrubber?

Has anyone used one of these? 18V ONE+ Telescoping Power Scrubber - RYOBI Tools I see a few threads where people suggested them… haven’t seen anyone who actually used it underwater for pool usage. I need to do some deep scrubbing in places that are hard to reach with the Manual brush.

Freeze Preparations (TX, LA, GA, AL, FL, etc)

Here’s my preparation in Central Texas. This worked through Snowmageddon a couple of years ago, even when losing power for most of a day. My pool equipment is below the water line so it can’t be drained. Basically it’s mover’s plastic, many layers, and the outer piping what is in contact with...

    Found the problem!

Wouldn’t it be great if all diagnosis was this easy? Leaky Tecmark pressure switch. $20 and 5 minutes to replace. Wish me luck!

    Tile separation above waterline?

A bunch of porcelain tiles have separated from above the waterline in my faux infinity edge pool. What’s the best way to repair? Marine epoxy? Thinset? Do I need to grind out the old thinset first? Waterline is usually around the 3rd tile down. Pool is 6 years old. We were in the big Texas...

Rare Texas hard freeze leaving me puzzled - please help!

Here’s what I did to my pool equipment. Wrapped outer layer in old pool cover. Then wrapped around and around with the plastic that movers use when palletizing goods. Mulched gaps at the bottom. Turned on pumps to full 24/7. I also have a diverter valve for the cleaner that’s in a different...

    Solar Cover Disintegrated

It seems like it’s the part that’s exposed to the sun while on the reel that fails for me. I’ve started buying them several feet longer than I need and simply cutting off a couple feet when it starts to deteriorate.

Please critique my iron staining plan of attack

I used a pool cover in July before (to keep chlorine in the pool during a vacation). Came back to 100 degree pool.

The worst article on pool chemistry I’ve ever read.

Here it is, courtesy of “Real Simple”. I don’t even know where to begin. https://www.realsimple.com/home-organizing/decorating/outdoor-living/benefits-of-saltwater-pools?utm_source=smsshare

    My plan for iron stains

I keep getting iron stains. Spot treatment with Ascorbic acid takes them off, then they redeposit. Rather than sequestering every week, I’m thinking of just using my pool water to water my lawn (which I need to do anyway), and refilling my pool with fresh water, thus exchanging a few hundred...

Pool sharing in the time of Coronavirus

Thanks all for the responses! I should have been more clear on the “who” in this. I am talking 5th graders with their parents who are family friends, in a defined period; not random kids goofing around unsupervised whenever! People who have been here before and who know my pool rules (and I can...

Pool sharing in the time of Coronavirus

My pool is 74 degrees and swimmable. We are on lockdown here in Austin TX but I am thinking of inviting friends and neighbors to share my pool as a relief from being locked in all the time. We would still maintain social distancing - one family unit using the pool at a time, and we would not...

    First time adding CYA.

You can also use pucks, especially in this time of low chlorine availability. Simply use as many pucks as you need to get the CYA level you want (poolmath will tell you how many) and the chlorine comes for “free”.

Austin, TX - New Pool Build - About to sign and need suggestions!

Sounds good! I like my in-floor cleaner. I noticed that both you and DB Cooper put in Salt Water systems. Our PB flat refused to do it (we are in ATX also). Has the PB industry changed their opinion of SWG in TX?

Algae ? That won't brush off

Check that your spots aren’t really iron. If you’ve had high PH it could have deposited, and it can look like mold. Rub a vitamin C tablet on it, if it disappears like magic then it’s iron.

    Pool green no bleach available

Anyone else in the same situation of needing to add both CYA and Chlorine... as liquid chlorine is in short supply nationally, why not consider dichlor or tricolor - powder or pucks - instead of adding CYA and chlorine separately? Pool math will tell you how much you need to add to get your CYA...

    Stinky Pucks?

    Stinky Pucks?

I am thinking bleach is going to be in short supply for a while. I bought a bucket of pucks from Costco, date code 20008716, and they reek! My whole garage smells of chlorine even with the lid closed on these. Is this normal? Will there be any chlorine left in them or are they just CYA pucks now?
