    Skunk in pool

To remove any kind of bad smell from anything - oil. Not practical in your case, but keep it in mind for the future. Sometimes you do something with your hands and no matter how long you wash it with soap, the smell is still there (like spilled fuel on hand). In this case, just clean hands with...

want to SLAM this weekend = HELP

You forgot one thing that TFP teaches you: Check and adjust the PH to between 7.2 and 7.5. The PH test isn't reliable during SLAMing so make sure to take care of this before you start. So keep in mind that your readings are off. Do not add too too much Muriatic Acid

want to SLAM this weekend = HELP

The pool looks really clean and clear. Since you CC is 0, then I assume don't have algae. Re-test. Then raise your FC (it is too close to critical level, you need to target 7 and minimum 5 based on your CYA), after lower your PH (I would say down to 7.2 based on your TA and Calcium and assuming...

    Hello from Maryland!

Ah, Maryland! The birthplace of my Taylor K-2006 :-) Once you fix your algae bloom and get back to clear water, do not allow for your FC to drop below 1.0. Even better, sock the pool if it drops to 2.0. One time, FC in my indoor pool dropped below 0.5 (by-law minimum for unstabilized pools)...

Pump presure increased after backwash on Hayward sand filter

I have a small chlorine feeder, but my pool is indoor, so it runs about 2.5 hours at night to rise FC to 2.5-3 from 1-1.5. With an outdoor pool the chlorine pump should be able to keep up with the demand during the day. I remember when I took care of an outdoor pool couple years back, there was...

Awesome! I would actually swim in this pool even though it is still a bit cloudy! The water does look clean!

Newbie - Chlorine, Algae, and Pressure Issues

After reading this thread I realized that I may have a faulty gauge as well. I noticed it stuck on 20 for a week and doesn't raise. Going now to check if it drops to 0 when I shut down the pump!

    TA Testing Variations

When they state on the kit instructions "untill the sample will turn red", they mean any shade of red color. As soon as you notice the change, that is your TA result. Sometimes I add couple more drops just to be sure. My sample turns just a little bit pinkish. My Calcium Hardness test is even...

Been trying to get clear water for a month!

That's right. Pool store testing was mostly wrong in many threads that I have read. Green color almost guarantees you still have algae. You need to test yourself and then SLAM the pool as per TFP. What are the test results from the pool store? Can you post photos of the pool?

Slamming for 14 days looking for some advice

Glad you cleared it. I don't have DE, but I use "clarifier" instead. It helps to glue together all the fine particles in the water, so that the sand filter is collecting it. I add small amounts weekly. Also, do not backwash too often (the working gauge is a must) and vacuum to waste instead of...

    Circulation pump noise

Sounds like something obstructing inside your pipes. When I shut the main drain and the second skimmer to vacuum the pool, my pump sounds more noisy like it is struggling, but since it is always the case, I assume it is normal pump operation when there is less water flow. It is strange that you...

Beautiful! The water looks very blue! So once you'll be able to see the deep end bottom, it will almost be acceptable and considered safe to swim by most Canadian provinces. Keep posting the photos, we are all thrilled like its our own pool :-)

    CYA/pH/TA in an Indoor Pool

Will mention UV system to the owner, but I doubt there will be budget for this. So, if I start the day with FC=3.0, TC=3.5, and by the end of the day I have FC=1.0 is more then enough for my pool?

SCUM LINES - what do you use? How to get rid of permanent Scum line dirt.

Yes, still original tiles and I should say it preserved very nicely, except few spots on the deck where tiles where replaced due to bubbling up. I am suggesting to the owner to do a hardcore renovation on the pool and deck this winter, but it is up to the operational budget. The owner realizes...

    Muriatic acid??

I hate to use Muriatic Acid because of its handling, gloves and googles. We use powder PH reducer. I guess it does leave something behind, but on the other hand, I vacuum every week.

SCUM LINES - what do you use? How to get rid of permanent Scum line dirt.

We use a special pool deck and sauna cleaner to remove scum lines. It smells like ginger ale and cleans pretty good, but there are some permanent marks that I can't get off no mater how hard/long I scrub it. Is there some tricks to remove this? What do you use to clean your scum lines and how...

I've read on the forum that sand filters are the slowest ones to clear out cloudiness and may take up to a week. So, since you started to see some visual improvements, maybe it is going where you want it, but just very slow!

    CYA/pH/TA in an Indoor Pool

Re: Need an Azimuth Check; CYA/Chlorine vs PoolMath Ok, then my PH rise is due to aeration problem that I had in the past month. The plumber replaced the leaky pump yesterday (usually it lasts 6-9 months) and now I don't have aeration problem, so by end of the week I should see how fast/slow...

    CYA/pH/TA in an Indoor Pool

Re: Need an Azimuth Check; CYA/Chlorine vs PoolMath TA is between 80-100. I try to keep it at 100, so my Saturation Index is around 0.0 when PH is at 7.4.

    CYA/pH/TA in an Indoor Pool

Re: Need an Azimuth Check; CYA/Chlorine vs PoolMath You are right. The min. FC for my pool is 0.5 ppm. I usually start the day with FC=2.5, TC=3.0. By 7pm FC goes down to 1.0 ppm if I get someone in the pool and some sunlight through the windows in the afternoon. If it is cloudy outside and no...
