Huge Acid Demand - Help Please

Plaster should be cured, none of the other things ever added but yea, was acid washed with a 50% solution. I don't think FC was ever > 10 except maybe right after fill before I added stabilizer and balanced everything out. It's been running around 1.5-5 (while I dial in the SWG). My reagent is...

Huge Acid Demand - Help Please

So this continues to frustrate me. I get the TA down to 60 or just below but it goes back to 70 or more in just a few days. I have to add around 2 cups DAILY just to keep it in normal range and more like 3 or more cups daily to keep the TA down. I'm going through jugs of acid way too fast (and...

Huge Acid Demand - Help Please

So a little background. Pool is around 20 yrs old, current diamond brite around 12 years. This past 'winter' I kind of let the pool go and it had algae on/off most of the winter. Had some trouble cleaning it up as even after I shocked it algae would seem to come back pretty quick. Also it was...

    Autopilot DIG-220 display blinking

I just replaced an older 3.1 unit with a 4.4 unit and it does the same thing. I assume its normal and just another way to save the display before it changes to the roving dots.

    Aqua Solar Blowing Fuses

So I think I will answer my own question after a little troubleshooting. I pulled the actuator wire off and put a new fuse. It ran fine for around an hour. I shut it down and plugged actuator back in and turned it on. Within 30 seconds the fuse glowed a nice bright orange and poof. So it looks...

    Aqua Solar Blowing Fuses

Hi, I have a Goldline Aqua Solar controller around 7 years old that keeps blowing its 2A slo blo fuse shutting the system down. I have checked the case, board and everything looking for any shorts, burned traces, bad caps, etc and I do not see anything obvious. Anyone know what may be causing...

    Autopilot Digital Issues / Replacement?

Josh - thanks for the quick reply. You may be right about #2, but thats not been my experience. I've had at least 2 different tri-sensors. On one the flow switch was bent and one of the salt probes twisted. The other looked fine on visual inspection but the salt reading was never really...

    Autopilot Digital Issues / Replacement?

So, I've had an Autopilot Digital w/ Sc48 cell for around 8 years and I've been mostly happy with it. But one of the things that I've seemingly always had problems with is the tri-sensor. The salt reading especially seems like it is NEVER accurate. Now it is off completely. So I have some...

Solar panel how to hang them

Yea, sounds like what you got is simply the strapping for Fafco panels. Here, here and here are some examples.

    Color LED light

I currently have a small Sunlite light and niche on the side wall of my pool. I am looking at upgrading that to a color LED model. I am limited because it is a small niche so I can only put a spa light in it. I am looking for the brightest color LED system in the spa form factor. After...

    Leak in PVC joint

There are many 'patches' including the tape mentioned, epoxy, etc. Some people even try to glob more pvc cement over it. The fact is that PVC joints are not really 'glued', they are solvent 'welded'. The primer and glue soften the PVC and when dry 'weld' the PVC together. You should never try to...

    Pump appears to have died

Since I just went through this what I found is that most pump motors these days are very cheaply made. Hayward as well as many others use AO Smith motors. They used to be made in Mexico and were moved to China and quality has suffered. My last Mexican made AO Smith lasted about 4 years. A large...

    Question about automatic vacuums

If you don't get a robot take a look at The Pool Cleaner. If you don't have a central vac port, you will need the 4 wheel model, or the pressure model. I have a tough pool where only a Navigator would work, but now The Pool Cleaner seems to be doing as good a job.

Which Salt To Buy??? Table Salt??

Yea, I think the whole point of this thread is don't use TABLE salt or anything with anti-caking additives or any additives for that matter. There are many brands and type of salt for pools. My pool store sells one in a brown paper bag and it is VERY fine particles, almost like the consistency...

    Superchlorinating with SWG

Sounds like it could be calcification coming off the cell. Take the cell off and look in it. Do the blades look like clean metal or it there white caked all over them? If you see a bunch of white caking the cell needs to be cleaned according to the manufactures instructions.

Killing weeds between pool deck pavers

Besides polymeric sand, sealing the pavers also can help alot. The sealer will get in the joints and bond the sand together. As for the Polymeric, did you try Paver Systems in West Palm? I think they sell Polymeric and other joint stabilizer stuff as well. It is referenced in the FAQ at bottom.

New SWG, conflicting advice about CYA

I'm still learning too, but with CC's doesn't the FC need to come up to 'shock level' to clear it out? And TA should be a little lower 70-90 for a SWG pool?

Need new pump quick, mine just died

Ok, so just for my education :), according to what I am reading TDH is comprised of both Vacuum and Pressure friction losses. It looks like Vacuum loss does change based on pump size, but it did not seem to indicated Pressure loss changing as well. The formula seemed to be fixed at filter...

Need new pump quick, mine just died

Thanks Mark! Ok, so let me ask you then. Assuming you are right and my gauge is fubar and my pressure should be higher, then that gives me even MORE head, right? Probably in the 60's with solar on. Unless I am really misunderstanding the pump curve, 2350RPM will max out at a little over 40 feet...

Need new pump quick, mine just died

    1. I REALLY appreciate all the responses so far, so please bear with me a bit. 2. I do want to find a way to make a VS work, but at the same time I want to be fairly confident I am going to see some savings with it. I know it's a better motor than others, but I'm not sure I can justify extra...

Need new pump quick, mine just died

Thanks for that thought Harry, but idt this motor has a starting cap (at least not external like most) and even if it did, that ain't it ;) When I noticed the pump wasn't running I also notice the other stuff, like the SWG was off. I checked and saw breaker was off and didn't think much about it...

Need new pump quick, mine just died

I have read and do understand where variable speed would save $$, but I'm not sure how low I could go and still drive the solar and SWG properly. And since they (at least solar) needs to run a good portion of the day, I'm not sure variable speed would work for me, hence the details given.

Need new pump quick, mine just died

I thought about that, but decided against it for a few reasons: 1. I hear that the replacement AO Smith motors are now from China and they, well, stink. 2. There is a leak at the output, so I need to take apart the plumbing anyway 3. The basket is cracked, so that's a few bucks more The dang...

Need new pump quick, mine just died

Yikes - as I was just about to plan this slowly, my pump just died suddenly this morning forcing my hand to do something very quick. So, I am looking at replacing the pump but want to make a smart choice of a quality, lasting pump balanced with good price. I would also like to lower electric...

Valve Actuators - Jandy vs Goldline

I have a Jandy 2440 actuator on my Aqua Solar that went bad. In looking for a replacement I see the Jandy 2444 but also see a new Goldline GVA-24. The Goldline is like half the price of the Jandy. Was just wondering if there is any real difference and is the Jandy worth twice the price?

Hayward Navigator - buy or don't?

I've had 2 Pool Vac Ultra's (essentially same as Navigator) in the past 16 years, I'm about to get third. At one time I tried literally every suction side cleaner on the market and the Navigator is the only one that would not get stuck by the stairs. It runs pretty much 7 days a week, 8 hours a...
