What to do if I can't find chlorine?

I have an above ground pool. Covered for winter. Should I keep the cover on if I can't find chlorine?

Salt Chlorine Generator On Above Ground?

Is anybody currently running their above ground pool with a salt water chlorine generator attached? Hate feeling like I'm handcuffed to my pool all summer because I have to add chlorine daily.

    pH keeps drifting over 8

For the past couple of weeks, my pH keeps drifting back up over 8 no matter what I have tried. Muriatic acid added according to Pool Math, then I thought maybe my MA was no good(?) so I added the appropriate amount of dry acid. Testing around 7.5 after I add acid, but in a few days it's back...

    Replacing Pump

Crazy question, but the pump is screwed down and even after blasting them with pentrating oil, I can't get the screws to turn to remove my old pump from the base. Any advice? edit - Put a pipe wrench on my screwdriver and that did the trick!

    Need advice on replacement pump

So my pump is too corroded to start this spring. Should I replace it with the same Hayward Power-Flo or can I upgrade to a more quiet version?

    Replacing Liner

My pool is down several feet this winter so I guess I've got a leak after six years. How difficult is it to replace the liner myself? Is there anything I need to be aware of?

Can I store my steps IN my pool over the winter?

Tired of the steps taking up space in the garage all winter, can I just lay them down on their side under the water and close the pool? I can't think of any negatives, the hardware is all stainless, the steps themselves are plastic and sit halfway in the water all summer. Thanks.

    Pressure gauge

Does anyone have a recommendation for a pressure gauge besides the one offered at TF Test Kits? I tried one of those but it only lasted one season. Not having a gauge on my sand filter is making me nervous.

Dropping below recommended free chlorine level

Using Pool Math, I should maintain between 4 and 8 ppm Free Chlorine. Say my Free Chlorine drops to 3ppm using the Taylor K-2006 10ml test, do I need to slam or will I be alright? I'm not talking about a heavy bather load, just a typical, hot, summer day.

Approached a stranger in Wal Mart

There he was, standing in front of the pool chemicals with a glazed look on his face. I couldn't resist. "Do you have a test kit?", I sheepishly inquired. "No, need to get one.", he replied. "A good test kit will save you hundreds of dollars in product!", I beamed with pride over my...

    Gauge stuck

When my pump is off, the gauge reads 10psi. Turning on the pump and the pressure raises to 25psi. Should I replace the gauge or just go with it for the season?

    Gauge won't drop to zero

When I turn my pump off, the gauge drops from 25psi to 10 psi. Should I get a new gauge? I thought the glycol filled one I purchased last season would still be good!

    Pump basket sealant?

Before I take the cover off the pool, I want to check and empty the basket right before the pump (not the skimmer basket). It says I need to apply something to the lid before putting it back on so it seals good, but it's Sunday and the pool stores around here are closed. Is there something I...

Closing with water temp above 60f

There's no way I could have waited until my water temps are below 60f. My pool would be half full with leaves. I raised FC to shock levels and covered. Am I going to uncover a swamp in the spring? As I drive around town, most of the pools I can see from the street were closed before mine...

    Skitch Hitchcock

I'm not really Skitch Hitchcock, but I did ride his World Champion model skateboard in 1975! My route was a bit different, but I ended up at the same place. Pool stayed clear the first year by sheer overchlorination(?). Second year it turned green and I got poolstore'ed. After visting my...

    Water suddenly cloudy

Test strips are worthless. My pool turned green when I used test strips. Now that I use a Taylor K-2006 my pool is crystal clear. I know at this moment my pool has around 7ppm chlorine and is safely above my minimum chlorine level for a CYA of 60ppm. Get a test kit, it's the best thing you...
