I have an above ground pool. Covered for winter. Should I keep the cover on if I can't find chlorine?

Is anybody currently running their above ground pool with a salt water chlorine generator attached? Hate feeling like I'm handcuffed to my pool all summer because I have to add chlorine daily.

Crazy question, but the pump is screwed down and even after blasting them with pentrating oil, I can't get the screws to turn to remove my old pump from the base. Any advice? edit - Put a pipe wrench on my screwdriver and that did the trick!
