New Pool Build in north DFW - Keller (pic heavy)

We recently built a pool in DFW and I wanted to share the process and pictures with the forum that has been so helpful to me. Overall, due mostly to weather delays and some communication issues with the PB, it took just over 5 months to complete. It all started with 4 bids and 4 wildly...

pH still rising after borates added

I recently read up on borates and thought this could be helpful for us. We have a pretty decent size waterfall/grotto and two weeping water falls that cause a lot of water agitation. To help combat the pH rise, I figured it could use borates. I followed the instructions and brought it up to...

    Restricting Water Flow

I have a dedicated 1.5hp pump for my waterfalls but when it's allowed to flow completely freely, the noise from the water it so loud that it makes it hard to hear anyone talking. I guess we're a victim of our own success. I did learn that I can reduce the water flow via the valves which not...

New Pool Needs Upgraded Automation Already?

I have a brand new pool that was just given to us last week. Included was a PDA-PS8 Combo remote control to turn on / off our equipment and set the programs. The problem is that it doesn't work from ****. It only recognizes some of the buttons I press (ie: if I press "down" to go down the...

New pool build - plaster failed QC

We have had an unusually wet spring in DFW this year. As such, the 5-8 wk pool build that got started in Jan is still not completed. This weekend they tried to beat some rain and plaster the pool. Unfortunately, right as they were finishing a pop-up shower hit the site and lasted about 5-10...

TFTestKit Refills - When does the sale begin?

I had read somewhere on here that the TF kits would have a sale in the spring (I wrote down todays date) for their refills. Their website doesn't show any sale prices so I was curious if anyone had any knowledge about when (of if) they might go on sale. Thanks.

    Brown Rust-like Stain on Wall

I had a new pool put in late last summer. We've been loving it. Over the winter I have kept the pool open and maintained it just like I do during the summer (all-be-it less chemical monitoring). I have noticed a small rust-looking spot near one of the lights, on the wall (up and down, not...

For those living in Texas, do you winterize your LQ?

I figure the flow rate on the tiny little LQ pipes are at a much higher risk of freezing than the regular PVC pipes for the pool. Does anyone winterize their pool in the South or just let it go? I have the rate control down pretty low right now. Leave it installed or remove it for the winter??

Help with part replacement for LQ installation

Mods, if this doesn't fall under construction, can you kindly move it for me. I'm looking for help identifying a part (ergo the assumption for construction) but it might fall under another category. I'm prep'ing to install a LQ but I'd like to drill as little as possible (or not at all if...

CYA is in check but CH continues to rise

I have a newly built plaster pool and have been following the BBB method. I have noticed that my CYA seems to stay in check (with normal splashing it'll actually fall so I periodically use a tab or two every so often to keep it in the 40-50 range). As I look back at my chemical log I'm seeing...

    Liquidator Installation

I have been following this thread regarding installing the Liquidator. It seems like a popular choice in regulating bleach into the pool. I *think* it's an available option for my 14,000 gallon pool. Anyone able to verify that? Can anyone verify that the OUT on the Liquidator should be...

High addon fee for fence after construction

First world problems here: Part of our construction included additional fencing to enclose the equipment. The new fence would extend 10 ft and include a new gate. It's included on our contract and diagrams. Later, I asked the PB to extend the fence 16' instead of 10'. When I asked for the...

    When to run the pump

So ... I heard (basically) that the pump needs to run (roughly) the same number of hours the sunlight is out. Maybe a little bit less. But then I read on here that it could just be a few hours a day. Which is it... well, I'm curious your thought based on this situation. I like Oscar (our...

Removable Pool Fence Installation & Lessons Learned

We are having a removable pool fence installed around our pool next week. I have a young son (almost 3) and think it'll give us a little more peace of mind. The visual barrier alone will keep him away but I don't want to freak out every time we're sitting on the patio that he's going to trip...

What causes the itchy skin or smell of chlorine?

I know its a newbie question but its hard to find a definitive answer just reading threads with these keywords. I haven't really had much of a problem with either but I've been to pools that smell of chlorine badly or make my skin really dry and itch when I get out. How do I avoid that...

How much FC is lost per day?

OMG - I feel like I keep reading the same stuff over and over but only picking up a small bit each time (and its always the "ohhhh" factor when it finally clicks). I am a new pool owner (2 wks old). I would think that if a pool builder or store would be honest about chemicals and chemistry...

    Chlorinator Settings

Well, I was officially handed off maintenance of my pool last Monday. I took the water in for testing and it showed there was next to no chlorine in the pool (0.27 FC). I shocked it and increased the pucks / speed of the cholinator at the store's request. I took the water in again a cpl days...

New build in Fort Worth (timeline with pics of build)

I just finished with our pool build in Fort Worth. I thought I'd share the progress with ya'll. They worked mostly 6 days / week and it's been about 4 weeks. Pool size = 16'x30' ... 14,000 gallons Interior Surface = QuartzBrite ********************** (disclosure added Oct 21, 2013) I'd like...

Curious - Anyone have timers on their pool lights

Not that it matters for anything, but my "customer pool builder" mentioned to me the other day that in 25 years he has *never* had a single request to put pool lights on a timer. That sure strikes me as odd but I'm curious if it's not nearly as popular I would think it would be. Anyone have...

Brand New Pool Fails the Bucket Test?

I have a brand new pool still under construction. I filled it just last Sat for the first time ever. It was awesome watching it come to life. At 3a it was full. But then I got up and went to show my wife at 8a and it was just below the tile line (2 inches lower than "full" over night)...
