Hi, guys...I tried to search this, but just can't find a good starting place. I'm not very knowledgeable about the lines, pump, filter, returns...I take care of everything else, so I'm asking this for my husband, who's been the troubleshooter for the pool equipment, as he is with everything...

Do I have to run my pumps for 24/48 hours with liquid CYA? I've been doing well with the old granular-in-a-sock method, but I'm hating to run the pumps that much right now to just raise it that *last* little bit, and fighting with my Intellitouch to keep the pumps on 24/7...today I don't have...

Just for grins, I ordered the Taylor K-1766 salt test that uses silver nitrate (wear plastic or nitrile gloves - Thanks to Waterbear for letting us know the silver nitrate causes BLACK STAINS FOREVER on skin and nails!!). Wanted to get down to the nitty gritty and see how the AquaChek strips...

...and they are all in my pool. Hundreds of them. Ugh. I'm out gleefully kicking the stragglers crawling around the deck into the water to DROWN. I hate fire ants. Arrghhh...glad when this is over, but happy to kill my share before they make their evil little mounds. :twisted:

Yesterday we had very heavy rain all afternoon that caused some area flooding and overflowed my pool...it all drains very well normally, but no way it could keep up with the unusual downpour. It was almost like Hurricane Ike on my street again water-wise. Eeek. Some mulch and dirt was washed...

Solar salt was added for the first time to my new pool for the Intellichlor on Saturday. We let the PB add it for "warranty" reasons. No testing of water prior to adding salt. Small pool (7000 gal. total). I tested the water yesterday with AquaChek strips, after 24 hours - pump ran about 12...

Finished enough for pics, anyway. Still going thru the last of the punch list...brass drain covers on order, etc. But...WE ARE DONE!! I feel like I should get some pool maternity leave now :roll: . We haven't gotten in to swim yet, but the june bugs are LOVIN' IT! :mrgreen: It's awesome...
