    Flooded pool

Well, we had some major rain a few days ago. We live on a slight slope so we get a good amount of run off from other yards above us. Unfortunately, it was enough to crest the deck at 6" - 8" above ground level and flood into the pool. I went from a crystal clear pool to a swamp in a matter of...

    Pool Skim

I was looking at this product and it looks cool! Curious if anyone uses this in conjunction with a robotic cleaner? Looks to me like the cleaner might have some issues with running into it or getting the cord entangled?

    CH borderline

Just took my readings and everything seems to be in line with recommended levels other than CH... FC - 3.0 CYA - 30 PH - 7.4 ish TA - 90 CH - 390 - 400 So how concerned should I be with CH at 390 - 400? To get to 300, I'd have to replace 25% of my water. Would prefer not to go through that...

    New Pool Build Plumbing Diagram

Curious as to others thoughts on the plumbing? I know the builders reason behind reducing to 1.5" on the far returns. He says he needs to increase the velocity at the far returns. My understanding is that'll actually increase head and cause the pump to work harder. Thoughts? Does it really...

    Chlorine Dispensers?

The PB has a chlorine dispenser as part of the equipment for our build in a couple weeks. I'm thinking of having him remove it and credit me the $ for something else such as a Stenner pump. Any reason why I should keep the dispenser?

    Solar Questions for New Build

Imminent pool build start in about 2 weeks. We're still deciding on whether to do solar initially or wait. If we don't do it right away, I'm going to insure we plan for it. I do have a few questions... 1. I have a neighbor that had solar installed here in Austin, TX and he thinks it was a...

Gunite Spa vs. Stand Alone Spa

So we are struggling with the subject matter. I can purchase a new Dimension One Nautique for about $5K less than the in-ground option. This would eliminate the heater but I would then substitute with solar heating for the pool. Curious if anyone has feedback on the advantages/disadvantages of...

New Pool Build - Want to Design for Efficiency and Perform

Ok, I've read the Hydraulics 101 sticky about 3 times now. Not sure I grasp it all, but getting there. I'm still struggling a bit with exactly how to best size pump options, pipe sizes, # of returns, # of skimmers, # of drains, etc. I have 4 quotes for what is essentially a 35' x 16'...

    Solar in Winter

We are considering building a pool and looking at various heating options. We were originally looking at a pool and spa combination with NG heater. Now, I'm considering removing the gunite spa and heater to the tune of $14K and adding a Dimension 1 spa for about half that. The problem is of...

iAquaLink control vs. Wall Control or PDA

Help me understand something. We are planning to select a builder and start building a new pool within the next 1-2 weeks. I have 4 bids from various PBs. I told each one that I want wireless control from my PC, smartphone, tablet, etc. One of them itemized the Jandy iAquaLink functionality...

    Sizing pump for best efficiency

Hi, we're in the process of receiving pool proposals for what will work out to approximately a 35' x 16' pool with 7' x 7' spa, no other water features. It seems most PBs in our area recommend a VS pump of some sort. Many seem to be proposing 2 HP. I've read during the swim season you want to...
