2 years after replastering… Calcium high and dark stains

We had our pool replastered 2 years ago and we have been getting a lot of white residue in the water. I finally got around to testing my CH and it is quite high. From what I am reading, the only way to lower is to replace water? Here are all my numbers: FC 8 PH 8 TA 130 CH 870 CYA 60 Salt 4800...

Where to start with pool cleaners?

I’m a bit overwhelmed in starting to research pool cleaners. Is there somewhere I can read up on the pros/cons of the different types? I’m attaching a picture of my oddly shaped pool. It’s about 3 feet deep at the steps and goes down to 6.5 at the far side where it is widest. There is only one...

Chlorine levels staying low with SWG and high phospates

Hello, I have a peculiar problem I would like some thoughts about. Several months ago--mid-September--I tested my water and the chlorine was non-existent. CCs were also low--0.5. The water was staying clear but there was algae growing in some of the waterline tile grout which has been pitted...

Hello, Our pool timer has gotten unreliable. It is 16 years old going by when the pool was built but we have only been here almost 4 years. My husband replaced the motor a year or two ago and it worked better for a while but now it keeps getting stuck. He lubricated the gears recently but that...

    Wet and Forget product?

Hey y’all! It’s swimming time in Florida already. Yay! But my patio looks terrible! Boo! At the end of last summer I sprayed everything down with bleach and a lot of areas are dingy already. Also the white screen enclosure cage is green and streaky on the large beams. My sister was telling...

    Vacuum plate... Feeling dumb

I’ve just replaced the previous homeowner’s cracked and falling apart pool vacuum hoses with a single standard pool vac hose instead of the 3 foot sections you have to put together. This one: https://www.amazon.com/U-S-Pool-Supply-Professional-Swimming/dp/B0721NDVL8/ He also had a weird...

    CircuPool SJ40 couple of questions

My husband has these questions about installing the CircuPool SJ SWG in our setup. I am attaching photos of the equipment pad and plumbing. The instructions say: "The cell should be located above the highest plumbing point, and raised at least 6" from the return line." He is unsure of...

New to inground pool... flurry of questions

New house with in ground pool... yay. Lovin it so far! But have some questions... There is one port from the pool wall and I don’t know what it’s for. I know it’s not a return, and there’s no suction from it either. It’s just a round opening with a plastic open mesh cover. I’ll try to take a...

Strange- chlorine seems to be increasing overnight

New to me pool, built in 2005. Water is clear. A little bit of green around the water line at the skimmer opening. Previous owner was using solid chlorine tablets. I switched to liquid until I can get a SWG. Passed OCLT about a week ago. Current test results: FC 11.5 CC 0 pH 7.5 TA 90 CH 330...

    Replacing chlorinator with SWG

Hi all, I’ve just moved to a new home with an in ground pool. I’m curious if anyone could give me a general idea about the cost and complexity of replacing the Hayward CL200 chlorinator with a SWG system? Three days dealing with liquid chlorine and I’m already over it. :p I’ve only had an AG...

    Aqua Trol Trouble

Hi Folks! Had a great summer... enjoyed the pool a LOT and didn't have any trouble. Then at the end of Sept. and into the first part of October we were away from home a lot. Usually the SWG does fine and I have to do very little in the way of maintenance. So I was surprised to come home a week...

Adding salt with leaf net still on

I still have the leaf net on my AGP, but I desperately need to add salt. With the leaf net still on I won't be able to circulate the salt with a brush. Will it be okay to just dump the salt in through the net? If not, any suggestions for how best to add the salt? Thanks!

    Pump advice please

Hello folks... it's that time of year again! I am needing to replace my pump. Mine has gotten so noisy I can only run it at night. Looking at 2 speed because my Aqua Bug vacuum turns into a snail with the one speed I have now. Would this be a good choice? If not, what should I look for...

    What is going on here?

Hi, I have a mystery with my pool and I'm hoping you all can help. We hadn't been swimming much because it has been raining almost every day. We were out of town Aug. 15-18 and the day we got back we went in the pool. So the 18th was the last time it had been used. That day, I noticed little...

Florida AGP people, what is your winter/closing routine?

I know it is early to be asking this question but I want to research and get opinions now so I will be ready come fall. I grew up in the Tampa Bay area and no one I knew closed their pools, although most were screened in. Now we live farther north in FL and it's an AGP, not screened. We have a...

Backyard project - new patio, shower, and shelter

With having to replace our pool this year, we ended up starting a whole backyard enhancement project. We have more we still want to do, but here is what we have so far: The deck was already there--it's 10 years old. The pool, concrete, shower, and covered area is all new. We are planning to...

Okay to go ahead with adding borates?

Here are my test results from moments ago: FC: 2 CC: 0 pH: 6.8 TA: 60 CH: 120 CYA: 60 Salt: 3200 Temp: 80 Is this okay to go ahead with adding borates? I know the pH and TA are both lower than what the borates how-to sticky post recommends, but won't that just reduce the acid requirement?

    Calcium Hardness

I know that pool school says my calcium can be as low as 50 for a vinyl liner, and I have always read that it doesn't matter in a vinyl pool... but does it matter for a SWG system? My Aqua Trol manual says calcium should be 200-400 ppm and mine is 120. Do you think I need to do anything about this?

New pool is filling... have a few questions about my plan

New pool installed yesterday and it's still filling with water--about a foot left to go. It's going to be tomorrow before it's high enough to run the filter at the rate we are going. (We're on a well and can’t run the hose non-stop. Going out this afternoon and will have to turn it off for that...

Wide mouth vs. regular skimmer and 1 return or 2?

Hi folks, We had our new 18' round AG pool delivered yesterday and we have an installer coming tomorrow. I just noticed that the skimmer they delivered is not a wide mouth, and our old pool had a wide mouth skimmer. Is this going to make much difference? If it's worth it, I could probably...

Opinions on this pool - Aquarian 500 aka Trevi 222

One of the pool places I have ordered from in the past has this pool on sale and all accessories ordered with it are 25% off, so seems like a good deal. The one I would get is the 18' round with 54" sides. Any opinions on this pool? Aquarian 500 http://www.poolproducts.com/aboveground ...

Hello, Does anyone have any tips for getting parts for a Sharkline Escalade pool? AGP With leak in liner

Hi folks, We had our AGP already closed up for the off-season and went on vacation. When we got home, one of our dogs* had dug under the deck so far that it punctured the pool liner and the pool was 1/3 drained. So we removed the winter cover and leaf net and there it sits. It was about due...

Recommendations for a step up from Intex SWG

I posted in other threads about my problem with the Intex SWG, so I won't repeat that here. But I wanted to ask for suggestions on which SWGs to look at which would be a step up from the Intex, but not too expensive. The max I'd want to spend is about $500. I see the Hayward AquaTrol is in that...
