    Skimaround?

Anyone else using one? Verdict is still out for me. It definitely does the job, but I find it to be a real balancing act with the suction. My vac doesn't climb to the waterline anymore, but if I increase the suction to the vac which lessens it to the skimaround, then the skimmer doesn't have...

    Still got it!

Recently returned to pool ownership after 5 years. The new place has an old pool that was terrible! The equipment was worn, valves were stripped, and it was filthy! Of course it passed everything on the home inspection  ... So upgraded some equipment and got back into the TFP method and am...

Back after several years! Need help IDing a few valves.

Hey all, been a few years since I had a pool and was an active TFP member, but with a new move, I am back in the deep end! But this pool is significantly older than my last. There are two valves that I need help IDing. I believe they are for main drain and skimmer. If I turn the closest one...

Has anyone ever used a light wedge?

My niche ring got mangled and there is no way it will support the new light. I called Inyo and they recommended this: Pool Tool Company Wedge, Repair Light (132) - INYOPools.com Anyone have experience with the wedge or know of a similar or better way? Thanks

    Basket half full...

No this is not a philosophical question :D My pump housing is always half to 3/4 full. When I fill it, as soon as I pull the hose, the water drains out of the pipe. It is an older pump that is only on or off. It doesn't have a prime startup cycle to run the air out. Because of this I am getting...

    Need advice on full timer

Hey guys, I am attaching a pic of my plumbing. The tall black knob on the right is how I fill my pool. I am hoping to find some sort of battery operated timer that can replace the knob or go inline with the plumbing but all I can find is inline hose timers. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Any robots better than others for leafy environments?

Thinking about going robotic, any recommendations for a pool that sits under an oak tree, other than kill the oak tree (it has crossed my mind). I am looking for something that has a good capacity for leaves. Thanks.

What is the best way to tighten large pipe fittings?

One of my fittings has a slow drip but it is too big for anything I have to get around and needs to be tighter than what I can do by hand. Does an oil filter wrench work or will I need a rubber strap wrench or something else?

What the heck happened to my pump!?

My pump goes off every morning at 9:00. I went outside today at 12:30 to find that my water wasn't moving and my sweep was at a stand still. I went and checked my gear and the filter had pressure but the window in the pump was fogged up. I shutdown via the timer then steam blew out of the pump...

Where does temperature come into play?

I have been playing around with my solar and covering for a few weeks now, and have come to the conclusion that we like 92 degree water. But this got me wondering. How warm is too warm from an algae, pathogen, and parasite perspective. My experience from living in the south for a couple years...

How about a deal alerts forum?

Maybe supporting members only to prevent spam, but I think it would be cool to have a forum for members to spread the word on good deals they found online or in store.

    Best "DIY" "Solar Rings"

yNkthdjSXno Lot's of " " in the title, because these are not quite DIY and not quite solar rings, but I finally found the solution to my cover and solar ring issues and it is working great! Basically I bought 10 foot Intex above ground pool covers and used them as solar rings. I even easily cut...

PoolSkim is Awesome! Here is a review I did.

1IGQhyLWhqc I got this to clean out the leaves from my big oak tree and my neighbors cottonwood that snows in my pool all day. If you have a free pressure side return, or do not mind switching to suction for your sweep (which I like much better so far), I would highly recommend picking one of...

Is there such thing as a Niche cover panel???

I think I am going to abandon my light since it is in an obsolete niche and the inner ring is broken. What I am thinking is to clip the cord on both ends but leave it in place to install a new niche and light once we do our plaster job hopefully next year. For now what I would like to find is...

Getting my solar installed tomorrow... anything to watch for?

Solar company called me up yesterday and said they got an early opening and can install my Helicol system tomorrow. Anything I should watch for while they are putting in the system? I have a cement tile roof and obviously don't want anything to compromise my roof. Also they are putting in an...

    Staining? Mottling?

Hey all, now that I have trouble free water, I want to start working on my staining. Kim and I started diagnosing this in my original thread which was geared toward my swamp, but now that my water is clear I would prefer to have a separate discussion geared to this. So this is what my pool...

DIY Solar Rings (well, squares) How To...

Hey all, just thought I would share a quick visual how to on making your own solar rings. I am not sure if this has been covered here before, and I certainly won't take credit for the idea, as I saw something similar on YouTube from Mike the Poolman: ZYrNTodaFlA This is mostly just a few pics...

    Light parts?

Hey all, took out my light to see what bulb I need to order for replacement, and the ring inside the house (the one that stays in the pool) got all bound up. This is the ring that the screw screws into to hold the light housing into the pool. I looked up the light model and it is obsolete, but I...

Can someone please help me better understand my piping?

Hey all, I would very much appreciate some help trying to understand my piping. Here is a front shot: And here is a top view: My pool has a center drain, skimmer on the side closest to the pump and filter, and a pressure side return where the sweep hooks up to. I am really trying to...

    To cover or to solar?

Hey all. I am currently researching between 2 options. Option one is solar heating. We are thinking between Fafco and Heliocoil and both have quoted us 80% coverage for around $5500. The other option is getting a solar cover on a power assisted reel which I am estimating would cost around $1700...

    Lost all chlorine overnight?

Hey guys, I have been reading a few posts and parts of the pool school and have decided after $180 at Leslie's and still a green pool that I am going to try this myself. Last week I had a full test at Leslie's and they found my CYA to be 20. I was prescribed 3 pounds of conditioner in a 19,000...
