New Build in Phoenix *UPDATED 9/20/13*

Re: New Build in Phoenix *UPDATED 5/2/13*

Looks good!

How happy have you been with managing the project yourself? How will any warranty stuff be handled? Do you have warranties for each sub that did certain pieces of the project?

I thought about doing the owner build but was concerned about problems in a few years and that sub being out of business. Didn't want to deal with having to find a new sub and then having to pay to have things fixed.

With that said, it seems that I have had to manage the subs anyway. The pool builder superintendent only comes out after the subs have done their work. Luckily, I work from home so I am able to talk with the subs and make changes or corrections with them while they are doing the work. I am sure the pool builder would have them correct any mistakes, but some of them would have been a pain and would have required some major re-work if I hadn't had them fix it before hand.

Hey Bryan, I'll be honest I was a bit skeptical when I started this. I have some very minor building experience (Built an outdoor shed that came in a box with instructions and landscaped my entire front yard right down to curbing and sprinklers), but never took on something like this!! I have not come across anyone that has "HORROR STORIES" as an owner/builder, but did find some people that had "issues" along the way that got resolved quickly. As for warranty stuff, I am happy with the 2-year warranty pentair gives for all their equipment. And I stuck with subs that are highly regarded in the biz. I am mostly worried about plumbing because of the amount of pipe I have on this project, but my plumber is a REALLY good guy and said he would come out for any issues I have. Thats probably the only good thing about having a pool builder is the warranty they will provide (1-5 years typically), but the money I have saved by doing this myself has allowed me to get some pretty nice upgrades if you have been reading my thread. So far, no real issues, hope it stays that way!!!

Good to hear you bleed maroon and gold!!! ASU/Notre Dame in Dallas this year, you going?

Glad to hear it's going well for you. I have read through your thread and your pool is very nice and looks like it will have some great stuff in it. I really like the sunken grill area.

California Pools offers a lifetime warranty on their shell (a real lifetime warranty) and also some lifetime warranties on other things, like the travertine deck, although I am not clear on whether labor is lifetime as well for the deck. That peace of mind was worth it to me so that I didn't have to worry about major things later on.

I won't be going to the ASU/Notre Dame game but I'll be watching. I was on the ASU drumline while in college so I am a huge ASU football fan. I was there during the Jake Plummer years and marched the Rose Bowl parade and half time show against Ohio State. That game was a heart-breaker but a blast to be a part of.

Something you'll appreciate. Joe Germaine (the quarterback for Ohio State who beat us in that game) was one of my neighbors in my current house before he moved. We have lots of ASU fans in our neighborhood and they used to say they didn't know whether to punch him or shake his hand! :)

Tap, Tap, Tap...I feel like my kids when they hound me in the car asking, "Dad, are we there yet?". Here is the latest progress:IMG_20130513_155427_843-web.jpg[/attachment:1pyp1mq5]IMG_20130513_155335_374-web.jpg[/attachment:1pyp1mq5]IMG_20130513_155403_856-web.jpg[/attachment:1pyp1mq5]
One thing I did not know, for those of you contemplating buying a Dolphin robotic cleaner, I got mine last week via UPS and the first thing I noticed on the box in a bright red stop sign symbol that read: "Warranty void if purchased online"...Uh, OK, W T F Batman? So I have since fired off a nasty email to Dolphin and havent heard a thing from them yet. So I'll keep everyone posted on that one. On a lighter note, I ordered my TF-100 today...

Re: New Build in Phoenix *UPDATED 5/13/13*

Well the heat has really ramped up! It is slow and go with the pool, mostly because of the kitchen. So much detail work needed to be done, and there is only two guys building the dang thing! Anyways, I am told pavers will start this week and that should get me in the water in 2-3 weeks. Still need a roof on the kitchen too, and I want that done before water. Stone work is mostly done, waterline and step-trim tile got done this past week. I have a high-pressure mist system that I have been slowly plumbing, lots of bends in 3/8" stainless tubing but Im getting there. So here is some update pictures: :party:IMG_20130608_124950_221-web.jpg[/attachment:cakq729g]IMG_20130608_124908_237-web.jpg[/attachment:cakq729g]IMG_20130608_125023_594-web.jpg[/attachment:cakq729g]

Re: New Build in Phoenix *UPDATED 6/24/13*

This looks great!

What did you use for your decking? It doesn't look like travertine pavers but looks like a manufactured product. Is it the stuff that stays cool? Any new pics with it full (or still filling up).
