Above ground sand cleaning

I've been an above ground pool owner since 2006. I've changed the filter sand many times, but I'm just now hearing about deep cleaning your sand. I read about it and watched the videos. Are other people doing this and if so, how effective it is? Adjacent property to ours has older, tall pine trees and that's the primary debris issue along with the pollen I deal with in my pool. Will that kind of debris actually float to the top when you do that cleaning? I've always just changed the sand every couple years before now. I use a skimmer sock all the time.

how effective it is?
For some, very effective. Especially those who haven't opened the filter in a long time, or those whose pump isn't strong enough to really push through the sand (upwards) during backwash. It's not a cure-all for every owner, but worth a try if they suspect compaction, channeling, etc. As long as you haven't added any pool store portions like floc or clarifiers, your sand should still be good. The sand itself should never go bad.

It is TFP's standard suggestion for cleaning your sand filter. Thousands are doing it. It would not work well if your sand was completely contaminated and you could not dislodge the gunk.
TFP suggests close inspection annually and deep clean usually ever couple of years or so
