Pool opening water testing numbers

This is only our second year with a pool and last year it was already open when we moved in. I just opened the pool and tested the numbers using the kit that is recommended here. The kit is now a year old, as it's the same one I used last year.

I was expecting to see 0 free chlorine since I haven't done anything to it since it was closed in October.

Numbers tested at
FC 10
CC 0.5
pH 8.0
TA 125
Calcium hardness 150
CYA 55-60ish

Do these numbers seem valid for an opening? The water is actually quite clear just a lot of leaves and worms. I figured they would've dropped the free chlorine levels though.

No didn't add anything, just used the closing chemicals. It was the Taylor K-2006C. I'm not sure if it's because it's a year old or not. I'll try giving it a good wash and testing again today.
Depending on what you’re closing chemicals are its possible. Maybe overdosed with chlorine at closing?

Once the cover goes on, especially late in the season, FC loss plummets. It's entirely possible it's still there.

Fas/DPD to prove it. :)

As an aside, if it turns out to be true, you passed a 5+ month long OCLT. :ROFLMAO: But I'd still want a current one once it's stirred up well.

I just did the FAS/DPD test again and got FC of 9.0. My kit didn't come with the drops to do the other DPD test. I didn't close the pool, so I'm not 100% sure what chemicals they put in at closing.

With the FC levels remaining that high and no algae is there any need to SLAM?

The rest of the numbers seemed ok. Need to bring the pH down a little bit.

No need to slam unless there is a specific reason to.

Very good opening numbers.

I suggested you scoop out as many solids as you can. vacuum or run the robot to get it cleaner. Run the pump 24/7 all the while.

post JUST these new test results back up here....

pH
TA
FC
CC

Prepare for the possibility of a SLAM but perhaps not.............Your new tests will help decide

Been open for 24 hrs now. Didn't exactly follow the OCLT procedures but it's been overcast all day. Added 1/2 gal of muriatic acid.

Numbers today:
FC 10
CC 0
pH 7.4
TA 100 (I did each drop = 10 instead of 25 this time)

Also added some DE to my sand filter 1/4 cup at a time per the website instructions. It took about 2 cups.
