Earthworm invasion

I open my pool to literally thousands of earthworms that have apparently slipped under the cover over winter. They break down, algae joins in to feed on the protein, and I am left with tons of worm bodied dark green glop that I have to net out. No way I would run that thru the filter. This season I put water bags half way around the perimeter, covering the parts that are closest to the soil level. It didn't do a thing, if anything it was the worst year yet. HELP !

I’ve never remembered to pay attention to locations on these posts. Is this a regional issue? I’ve never seen a worm in our first year of ownership.

But why do they not get in the rest of the year? I don’t close my pool so I’m not familiar with everything about that.
I get them after heavy rains in the summer too. They don’t accumulate as much during the summer I suppose because I’m quick to throw in the robot after every rain.
