As you may have seen, I had a mishap this winter. Late February my cover blew open and cover water and leaves got in. I don’t know how much. Fast forward to today, it’s open and green but CLEAR. Im unconcerned about the green and staining. It will clear up with chlorine. The concern I have is the stuff growing on the walls.

Once my pump is running for a couple hours I will test and confirm there’s no ammonia.

Pics of the backwash leak area?

Brush the pool. If any of the stuff settles out, scoop it all out.

Post a full set of current test results once tge pump has been running for a while.

After you are sure there isn't an ammonia, SLAM Process
I brushed the pool but that stuff on the walls doesn't budge. I'll have to have my husband try or we will have to use something else and stick our hands in. the water is 52. brrrr..

Begin the SLAM Process after you're sure there isn't any ammonia.
Follow the SLAM Process to the letter.
Remember - CYA 30 and pH 7.2 before you start.
If you need to add CYA, use the sock method. Once hanging, consider it added and use the appropriate SLAM level for FC.

So the pool guy said it might stop and the leak has decreased, even in the past 20 minutes or so. maybe it will?
Chances are that the multiport spider gasket is bad.
With the pump off - remove that plug, clean the plug and the area in/around where the plug goes and then try reinstalling the plug.
Long term solution is to fix what is causing the leak.

yes a spider gasket is what he said I needed. is that not the long term solution? and I don't want to reinstall the plug, I want to attach my backwash hose so I don't have to do that all the time.

Yeah - that is the long term solution.

What I wrote about the plug and cleaning the area is temporary.
You're most probably going to need to backwash a few rimes during your SLAM and will need that port open to do so.

thanks, do you know where I can get a multiport spider gasket and will it need to be a certain size? And based on my clear lack of knowledge here is this something I can do?

also the plug has popped out and as soon as I put it back in it's out again. it's leaking just slightly more with it out.

Pool store probably
You will need the multiport brand and model number as the gaskets aren't universal.
Filter make amd model as well - and take a few pics to show the PS as well.

How do you attach a backwash hose?

with the hose and a metal thing that wraps around it? Isn't that normal? lol

It is for many, yes.
also can I use my Dolphin S200 in 52 degree water?
You may. (y)

If given the choice though, nothing vacs like the old skool manual vac. Especially if there is heavy debris. They aren't designed for that although they do their best to try.

no heavy debris. pool store vaccummed it beautifully. I'm just thinking it might brush this stuck on stuff off the walls.

ok potentially really dumb question. I don't measure chlorine, as I never use it. so I don't have anything. Pool math said to add 1.2 gallons, so I estimated. even if I measured, my 15,000 gallons is an estimate anyway, so it's not perfect. Do I need to test to see what my chlorine is at. or in 30 minutes I might have close to zero chlorine, or I'll have something and Ill know if I have ammonia that way?

good news - look at the color 5 min after adding.

You guessed close enough. You'll know it's ammonia when the FC is a 2 or a 4. You didn't miss by that much.

We'll reasses if the test comes back borderline at 7.5 FC.
