Jandy/Zodiac LXI Heater IGN Control issues

I have a 10+ year old Jandy LXI Heater on our pool. In the last year or so it has been acting up, mostly due to age. I have been chasing IGN Control errors for at least 12 months off and on. The heater works just fine when it is lit - no issues with the heat exchanger or water flow. The following steps were all gleaned from you all on TFP - so thank you!

-I did all the visual inspection of the heating tubes - no cobwebs, etc.
- Initially it was the igniter - I pulled the old one out and it disintegrated pretty much on touch. New one slotted in and the heater ran more often. I still would get IGN Control errors every so often. Grainger sells them way cheaper than Jandy for anyone chasing this issue.
- I replaced the flame sensor (since it was easy to get to and subject to the same abuse at the igniter). Again that helped some, but still not back to where it was a couple years ago.
-I noticed a small "boom/woosh" sound when the IGN Control errors would happen. The blower comes on for a minute or two, you hear the click of the gas valve (and smell gas a little) and then a big whoosh/boom louder than when it is working normally. I read a couple posts here saying that could be the blower not evacuating exhaust well enough, so I gave that a try.
-I replaced the blower assembly - the old one was dying and noisy and needed to go. Things worked grand for a couple days and then I got the IGN Control error and "whoosh" again. I turned it off, then turned it back on and the heater worked just fine for another day. I set the little door to the same position as the old one - not sure how to "tune" that.

Let me say - I hate intermittent issues just like this one. I am at a loss as to where to go next? Any of you have insight into what I should be doing to get this reliable again - besides buying a new one. Thanks for any help or advice here.

Sounds like you have an issue with the burner assembly itself. The slots in the main burner (the one that sits at the ignitor especially) can get clogged or completely burned through and the gas doesn't come out as evenly as it should, builds up until it hits the ignitor, explosive ignition (the "whoosh" sound) will actually blow the flame out and and cause and ignition fault code. You'll need to pull the burner try to see. At 10+ years its a good guess that's the issue.

Thanks for advice. That makes sense. I appreciate the dialog!
