Liquid Chlorine Degradation

I know liquid chlorine degrades over time. I just finished my first gallon jug and made the switch to a fresh bottle. Woah!!

Just checked my Cl this morning and boy was I surprised at how high my Cl was compared to what I had been doing. I should have been at 2 ppm based on what I had been doing but was at a 5.5 ppm.

I know this is common knowledge to most of you but it really surprised me. I actually saw the difference vs reading about it. LOL

During Covid, I watched people buying gallons of bleach to use to disinfect their homes. People that may use one gallon per year buying multiple gallons because they were worried they couldn't find more later. Same with toilet paper. I wonder sometimes what percentage of chlorine is left in these jugs that went unused.

But their stored toilet paper works fine.

As long as you store it in a cool, dark place, it wont degrade too quickly.

Of course...no guarantee it has any potency to start with ;)
 
I purchased 4 gallons from rural king last September. This was the last gallon.
I went to my local Ace Hardware and got the exact product. He had to order 4 (a case) and told me I only had to purchase one. He said he’d probably sell it eventually. I starting feeling a little guilty (his price was only $5.40/gal for 10% chlorine) so I got all 4.

So, in essence, I got 2 “free” ones compared to what other places around here charge.
