I assume when my 1HP Pentair pump turns on and then kicks off in 20 to 60 seconds with the pump motor hot to touch...that it means a pump needs replacing? Checked the inlet strainer was clean.

If I assume right, what's the best bang for the buck for a waterfall pump? I attached a picture of what's there. Just moved in and the PO left us with a bad pump I guess....

@1poolman1 has good ideas on pumps.

If that pump did the job, and is legal to replace where you live (if not it most likely wouldn't be shipped there), get another, they're still made. About $350.00 online and at Leslie's. Used to see them all the time on older waterfalls.
If you want more control over the actual flow from the fall, and a quieter pump, try a Waterway Power Defender 140. Great VSP that will work on 120V and you can dial in the waterflow. About $650.00 at Pool Supply Unlimited, a good online store.

Actually shows it discontinued everywhere and has been replaced by "compliant" pumps
