A little hard to see, but the leak is not actually coming out of the line that is there, its coming out between gasket and the filters...outer shell.

My pool guy said he trieed to "reseal and epoxy it, but that only laster about 2 weeks." So he is recommending replacing the entire filter unit for about $1400.

Replacing it is something we will probably do eventually, but it would be nice to have some kind of stopgap solution for a month or so until we actually do. Also considering just replacing the lower half, since that seems a lot cheaper than replacing it all, because hopefully the top half wears slower than the bottom half?

It looks like it is cracked.

Take it out of service immediately and replace the filter.

A cracked filter can potentially explode and injure someone.

Regarding that second news story - Why would you “manually release the pressure” on the filter? Why would you ever touch the filter if it’s under pressure/running? Are there filters out there that retain pressure after the pump is turned off?

I have used a product called PC7 part A and B. its a kit. I mixed it in equal proportions and it better than new once it cures. Keep the system off and sand it just to rough up the surface. Mine was a plumbing line not pool. filter but its good stuff. It is available at ACE hardware or amazon.
Sorry, I did not realize this was such a dangerous issue, My apologies, I learned something today. The last thing I want to due is hurt someone.
