New plaster pool chemical balance

The calcium in cal-hypo accumulates just like CYA and high calcium will cause scaling on pool surfaces.

We have NST prime extended release non stabilized calcium hypochlorite tablets.

Long thread on the NST tablets...

Got my TF-Pro and ran these tests just now. My pool is roughly 14,000 gallons pending exact reading from meter. I have some muriatic acid I can add. Is it common for ph to rise often in a new plaster pool? Should I add any liquid chlorine? I’ve been a bit conservative on the tablets. I will do the rest of the tests when I’m back home.

Ph 8.2

Ch 2

CYA 40

Alkalinity 100

The color change from green or blue to red/pink/whatever is what matters.
Okay good. And is it common to need to add small amounts of acid almost daily with a new pool to keep ph I’m the 7 range? I’m using the chemical calculator from this website to get my acid calculations based on ph level.

What is the pH level when you add acid and what do you lower the pH to?

TA of 100 contributes to the pH rise. As your TA drops the rise will slow down a bit.

My Ph seems to like hanging out at 7.8 to 8.2. I add the acid and it comes down to eother 7.2 or 7.5.

Let your pH hang out where it likes. Don’t reduce it until it is 8.2 and then only down to 7.6.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it hanging out at 7.8 or 7.9. When hits 8.0+ it’s time to adjust but no need to go way down to 7.2. Maybe just 7.6 because it rises quickly through the low sevens and will rise slower in the upper sevens.
