I believe my pool is leaking. I have a 21,000 in ground pool. I'm not sure where the pool is leaking from. Currently I am doing the bucket test to make sure it's leaking. I'm losing about an inch of water a day. Nothing is obvious above the ground. However, the pump started to cavitating for some unknown reason. Not sure if this is due to the pool leaking or for some other reason.

I have isolated all the valves and turned off the pump.

The water level has dropped below the skimmer Intake and the skimmer still has water in it. So, I’m guessing it’s not in the skimmer line.

I’m going to plug the return lines next to see if the leak stops. Then unplug them 1 by 1 to see what happens.

What do you guys think.

Sounds like a plan. If you discover which line has the leak it may take a leak detection company to pinpoint and repair it.

"I would be highly suspicious of your skimmer."

That's what I would have thought also. But the fact that the water level is now 3 to 5 inches below the skimmer intake. I almost got to rule the skimmer out.

So I spoke too soon The water level in the skimmer went down about an inch below where it was yesterday. This could be because of evaporation But I'm not sure. The water level is about 1 from the bottom of the skimmer intake.

The pool today lost about an inch and a half of water, and now its setting, about 4 inches below the skimmer level.

The bucket on the inside lost about half an inch and the outside of the bucket lost about an inch and a half from yesterday.

Not evaporation or the level in the bucket would have dropped the same. At that level, it could be a return line or the main drain line or the light conduit.

The only way that I think I'm going to be able to tell were it is leaking is when the pool stops losing water, I think off the top of my head it goes the return lines then the light and of course my worst nightmare the bottom of the pool. Is there a better way then what I'm thinking?

You really need a leak detection company.

Ok so the leak detection company came out and they think it the skimmer. So is this a easy job or not so much? They quoted me 2500. I see i can get one for about 200ish and it seems strait forward, cut the concrete around the skimmer bust it all out replace with new skimmer patch pool plaster going into pool. Am I missing anything?

So I'm not 100% sure I'm thinking about this correctly, so if I'm wrong someone jump-in. But basically the bottom of the pool goes to the bottom of the skimmer. So whatever the water level is in the pool, is going to be the same in the pipe going to the skimmer. So if your skimmer busted at the base joint the water level will look below the skimmer but is actually right at where the connection is.

No I just went off with the leaked detection company stated. I found the leak and water is still flowing out and a very slow rate, but it's still coming out.

Only gotta work on it for 3 hours today. But here's where I ended up.1000006365.jpg
Also ended up finding my leak at the very bottom. Copper pipe with a pin hole on top.
