No flow and no pressure on filter

Hi, my filter system just stopped flowing today, and when I checked the filter pressure, it read 0. I tried checking the pool, but no water is coming out from the filter.

I was wondering if someone has had a similar issue and can share the fix. Thanks in advance. I also attached some photos.

Is the pump running?

Were you doing anything to the equipment prior to this happening?

Assuming the pump is running, when there is zero pressure and no flow, there is a problem on the suction side of the pump and/or with the impeller. A few possibilities:

Check the valves on the suction side of the pump and make sure all are in a position for proper flow.

Make sure the pump basket lid is on tight and not leaking and/or drain plugs are installed and sealed.

Make sure the pool level is not too low (halfway up the skimmer mouth).

It is possible the impeller has broken loose from the motor shaft or perhaps it may be clogged.

Thank you for your response, Mark.

Nothing was done prior happening, all valves are on the flow position, basket is tight and no leak, pool level is not low.

I've checked the pump again, and it actually stops running after it started for about 10 seconds. I also noticed there's no water coming into the basket labeled E in the photo. If there's a clog, which of these valves should I try cleaning?

If the pump stops after 10 seconds, then the problem is with the pump.

Does the pump display show any sort of error after it shuts down?

Has the pump been louder than normal lately?

How old is the pump?

Is there water in the pump basket up to the level of the inlet pipe?

If so, then there is probably something wrong with the impeller and you or someone will need to remove the motor from the wet end to inspect.

I tried just opening the basket to see if the water will get sucked in. But nothing, the pump will turn on but the water on the basket is not moving. Seems a pump issue. I might need to search up how to repair a pump or something. Thanks a lot for you responses, Mark. Much appreciated!

That won't work. If you open the pump basket, the pump cannot create any suction. It can only prime when the pump lid is sealed.

My question was not about water going from the inlet into the pump basket. My question was if the pump basket water level, when the pump is off, is at the bottom of the inlet pipe. If not, use a hose to fill it as much as possible, replace the pump lid and try again.

Make sure the valves are in the proper positions. Does the photo show the current position of the valves? We would need a few more photos to make sure they are set correctly. If you're not sure, post photos of your valve positions.

Mark, I was able to prime it by putting a hose on the basket and covering the skimmer with a cloth, the basket was full, put the basket cover back and I started the pump, but its doing the same and when the pump stopped the water on the basket was just tiny bit above the inlet. Ive attached a photo on where the water is.

Mike, ive attached a photo on the valve.

That water level is fine. If the drive is still alarming, then the issue is likely with either the impeller broke off or something is wrong with the drive.

When you turn on the pump (with lid on), does the water level drop at all in the pump basket?

So I tried rotating the impeller from inside the basket, it rotates, but the fan is not rotating. When I rotate the fan, then impeller won't rotate. Is this an issue with the impeller shaft? If so, am I able to buy a replacement shaft and replace it?

Yes, it means that the impeller has dislodged from the motor shaft.

As to fixing it, it most likely is the impeller that broke and yes you can replace that. But before purchasing, you need to remove the motor from the wet end to confirm the failure point.

So the impeller was indeed dislodged, but I can't seem to put it back in. Removed the other cover and noticed this on the shaft. Is this a broken shaft? Photo attached. If so, can this still be fixed?

Looks like the screw head really got chewed up. Something else may have failed as well. Is the diffuser and volute still in good condition?
