Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! *PICS THREAD*

Not a stupid question at all!! What are your water test results? We can go from there. 🙂

EDIT: Oh, and what are you using to test your water?
I bought the TF-100 SALT (I think this is what TFP recommended). Will have my results in the morning when I open. I just peaked in the deep end, can't really see how clear it is, but I could easily see the drain in the deep end so that is promising at least!

Thanks for the reply. So the procedure tomorrow is open the pool, add chlorine to 5ppm then Monday test the other levels?

Exactly. 5ppm will hold you over. FC mixes in 20 mins so that's valid almost right away. If it's 0, add 5. 2, add 3, etc.

Salt, CYA and CH take a day to mix and are a female dog to remove if you goof. You want those tests proper. See you in your thread. :)

I might
If I may ask a stupid question, we purchased our house last year and did a major overhaul on the pool, ran from August to the end of October with no issues. Now it's time to open the pool and I am firstly hoping that I winterized it correctly. But all of these photos have me wonder, do you SLAM a pool when you open and it's clear?
Nope. Get your levels and balance it all out. I once you get your cya to a normal level you can do an over night chlorine loss test to just make sure but if it’s clear you are good to go most likely.

Here it is!! I took the cover off today! A few things to point out here:
1. We had a huge storm this week and there was a ton of debris on the cover itself. I tried to keep the debris out of the pool, but it's so windy today that while draining the water off the cover that accumulated this week and trying to carefully remove it, the wind blew it and caused a ton of dirt/debris to fall into the pool... it was near perfect before I removed it (minus some dead bugs)
2. You can see how much water was lost due to the bad patch repair from the nut sedge that I had last year. I attached a photo of the patch I attempted so I need to do a better job of patching it . I'm currently in the process of filling it back up, and I have the pool filter soaking and cleaning so that later today I can reinstall it. I've removed the upper plug for the skimmer, but didn't remove the return line yet since I have the filter disassembled (and I have the inlet shut off at the pump to keep water out).
3. I'm also terrible with using pool pillows.. they always "pop" halfway through the winter....

I’m so sorry about the leak!! That stinks! I’ll be honest, I actually drain right to where yours is at (literally right below the skimmer plate). Your water looks crystal clear at least!

This is the pool pillow I purchased off Amazon that I’ve used two winters in a row now and it stayed strong despite taking some beatings from Mother Nature and me putting too much air in it. The material is really thick and high quality. Makes it so easy to pump water off and no junk fell in the pool when removing the solid cover in the spring. I highly recommend!
Here is the Amazon link of the exact pillow I use: https://a.co/d/dEEQwo3

If you look my water level is actually below the return lines too . I've got it almost filled up now.. it's now about an inch below the skimmer plate ish so it's still got a little more water to fill but it's getting there.

This was the pillow I had got:

So we opened the pool yesterday, first time 'opening' our pool. We had issues over the winter with the cover because we had just finished the patio (DIY) and our temporary anchoring method was only partially successful. We ended up with the cover being too loose and so the pump lowered the water level lower than we had and also ended up with some leaves, etc in there. The autocover is still a work in progress, hoping to get that up and running soon so I can turn on the heater! Will post a thread about this, but here are my photos:

Got the pool filled up last night and ran the pump all night to clear it up. This morning got the vacuum out to clean the bottom and this was my first test of the year. For those of you who remember last year I dealt with a very high CYA so the loss of water seemed to have helped drop my CYA down. When I first joined TFP the CYA was 100 and I was able to get it down to 70, so having it now down to 60 is even better.

My homeowners insurance would drop me so fast if I had that awesome rock to jump off of. 🤣

Here's our pool on Sunday right after the cover came off. Some leaves and dirt, but overall pretty clear.

And here it is after about 1.5 robot cycles to clean things up.

Chemistry before any balancing was:

FC: 6.0
CC: 0.0
pH: 7.8
TA: 90
CH: 100
CYA: 50
Salt: 2200

Looks great!! We have this very small deck that I'm hoping in the next few years we can have extended out to our pool similar to how yours looks. Our pool isn't that far from the house and the current deck, and I want to have the deck "extended" over to it and then have steps going down each side. I have the attachments for the steps to connect to a deck. but our landscaping around the pool isn't leaving much to be desired LOL

Opened today. Pics taken right after cover was taken off. A couple weeks of cool.weather should give me plenty of time dial things in. Hopefully no snow in the forecast!!! . 🥶
Ran my #'s on Monday night:

FC - 4
CC - 0
pH - 7.6
TA - 70
CH - 50
CYA - 50

Didn't bother with salt yet as too cold to run, I still have the SWG place holder pipe installed. I take my cell out during the winter. I added bleach to bring up FC to 8.

Question: Water looks good, #'s look good, so is a slam necessary when we start up pools on opening?
