My salt is a little high at 4200 PPM according to the aquarite 900 control panel, strips, and Taylor reagent. It's working perfectly for my 28,000-gallon pool, set at 50% and maintaining FC of 2-3 PPM.

However when I switch the valves around to isolate the spa and turn on the heater to 101F, the control panel will always report high salt and shuts down.

Is the high temperature causing the false reading? Is this usual?

I'm always able to resume generation after I switch the valves back to run water through the whole pool and spa.

bit,

The hot water causes the cell to read high salt.. The actual salt level does not change, just what the cell "thinks' the salt level is changes..

Most people try to run at 3000 to 3200, why are you running at 4200 ppm???

I see that you have been a member since 2017 and puzzled why you would think that an FC of 2 - 3 ppm would be close to be acceptable???

You might want to check out this link...

Thanks,

I just converted to salt a few weeks ago. Estimated the salt incorrectly (pool volume must be a bit less than I always thought). I've read a little high salt doesn't damage anything but of course makes the water taste more salty. I'll leave it as is until it naturally comes down to 3200 PPM with backflushes and refills.

My cya was zero when I opened the pool. I've just finished 3 trichlor tabs (since I already had them) and the cya has still yet to come up to anything measurable. I'll keep using the tabs until I see cya between 20-30 PPM.

FC 2-3 with salt seems correct but I'll double check the information here. My calculator app says target 3 PPM or 1 PPM for salt. I figure I'm in the ballpark at 2-3 PPM. I have a lot of messy trees over the pool and occasionally fight algae. I dropped all the phosphates out when I opened the pool and so far the algae has kept away!

Thanks for confirming that the high spa temperature causes an incorrect reading from the control panel and that's expected. I figured so, but better to confirm!

The app is showing a low FC range because you have very low CYA in the water. I would suggest you add stabilizer to raise your CYA to 40 ppm minimum now. Likely will need to raise that to 70 ppm by Memorial Day.

A Hayward Aquarite with elevated salinity levels will damage components of its control system. You should drain off 20% of your pool volume and refill with fresh water.
