I found 100 lbs of calcium hypochlorite 65% for $300. Shipping was free for me (Texas). Price looked too good to be true, but ordered anyways on 06/21/2023, and a big 100 lb tote of pool shock arrived at my doorstep today on 06/23/2023. Enjoy!

Did some math (with help of pool math); contains same amount of FC as:
~62 gallons 12.5% Liquid chlorine - break even at ~ $4.84/gallon
~77 gallons 10% liquid chlorine - break even at ~$3.89/gallon
(of course you are adding a lot of CH over the life of this bucket)

That's true. I use it until my CH starts getting high then I back off and use liquid chlorine for a while (the Walmart 10% stuff currently at $5.67 [insert frowny face]) until CH drifts lower and then I just cycle between them. My last 100 lb pale of the Leslie's Power Powder lasted me 1.5 years this way by supplementing a lot with LC. Texas summers are killer on chlorine burnoff.
 
CYA levels and how you add FC can affect how much chlorine you'll use. You really should invest in a SWCG for a Houston pool, but higher CYA levels will absolutely help you as well. You don't share testing results, so I don't know how you handle your pool today, but something to think about.

Calcium.
It’s been like this for years and nobody can figure it out. I’ve concluded it prob has something to do with the materials used in 1970’s when it was built, or the paint we use on it every 3-4 years.
 
That is the same chemical used for shocking your pool sold in 1 lb bags for about 10.00 at pool stores. Buying in this volume comes to 3.03 a lb which is a great price no doubt. But that's a lot of chemical and you are tying up a lot of capital too. Calcium build up is a problem too, I prefer a non chlorine oxidizer instead, it's focus is on removing contaminents which is food for algae thereby not allowing algae grow and multiply and it doesn't contain calcium, although it does contain sulfates which is another TDS, just the lesser of the two evils. The upside is you can add it anytime of day, swim in it after a few minutes and it allows your chlorine to be more effective as a sanitizer which kills algae, instead of having to do double duty as oxidizer too! Another upside is it doesn't raise the PH like chlorine does even if they say it's temporary that has not been my experience which leads me to adding more acid. So anything that can help you save somewhere else is worth it to me

None of what you're recommending aligns with TFP principles.

Non-chlorine oxidizer will foul up CC testing for ages. Liquid chlorine has no effect on pH.

Proper chlorine levels don't allow algae to grow either.

You'll also never need to shock if you've maintained a sanitary pool.

Let's take just 2 parameters and get a wildly different story with the same TDS
