I heated the pool to 90 last weekend and FC went from 7 from before heating pool to .5 when i tested 2 days ago. Had SWG chlorine % on 40% during the time. I am using TF-Pro salt test kit.

I understand heating pool can kill FC so want to better learn how to deal with this in future. CYA stayed around 80-100 when testing before and after.

When i tested 2 days ago and saw .5 FC, I turned SWG to 100% for 8 hours and it brought FC back up to 6 and has stayed the same since. 4100 gallon pool.

Should I be turning up chlorine % on SWG when I start heating the pool to try to keep it more level during this time? Or will I always just have to bring it back up again after?

Did you heat the pool AND use the pool? Cooties from people are probably what used up most of your chlorine, not the water temp.

With a 4,100 gallon pool I would imagine you would not need to crank up the SWCG to anywhere near 100%. What type of SWCG do you have?

P,

I don't think that is true at all...

40% SWCG running in a 4K pool should be creating a huge amount of FC.. Something is not right somewhere..

You should not have to adjust your FC up just because you heated the pool, but if you had 8 kids in the pool they might have "used-up" the FC..

How many hours a day are you running the pump??

Thanks,

thank you for the help. We did have about 5 people in the pool and were in/out of pool for about 10 hours that day.

I have a jandy aquapure swg and run it for 8 hours a day. I've kept it on 40% for a while now and when using tf-pro tests FC has been consistent until after this past weekend changes.

makes sense on people in pool using up FC. still very new to pool maintenance and learning as i go.

I just tested FC today and is down to 2 again. Should i be doing a SLAM?

P,

It can't hurt to run an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test or OCLT.. (With the SWCG off)

Nothing should consume your FC but sunlight and algae..

If you lose FC at night, it kind of points to algae, even if you can't see it yet...

You need to add enough Liquid Chlorine to get your FC up to say 8 ppm right at sunset, and then see what it is just before sunup..

Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

Thanks,
