I'm still mulling over a robot purchase, and started looking closer at the Polaris models after some folks here recommended the Aqua Products Evo (same as some Polaris models).
I noticed a new (I think?) model in a local store flyer, the Polaris Scout:

Scout 42iq (Wi-Fi)
Scout 40 (no Wi-Fi)

Other than shape and caddy (Scout does not include one), I don't see any difference from the Epic. The feature/function list is identical far as I can tell:
Epic 8642iq
Epic 8640

The only other thing I notice is that the Epic robots have "Trade Series Exclusive" printed on them, and the scout does not.
Does anyone here have the Scout or equivalent cross-branded model?
What's the deal? Why another identical robot?

I'm interested in these (Scout 42iq vs Epic 8642iq) because I'm already in the Aqualink ecosystem, and because a local store is running a really good special. I'm heading up there later to get some LC, but thought I'd check if anyone has any info on this Scout. I can't find much about it online other than directly from Polaris.

Hi Pat,
I still have not made a selection, hemming and hawing between the venerable and generally well regarded Dolphin Active models or the newer EVO/Polaris ones with app control and the EasyLift system. Part of me is tempted to wait to see if there is a new crop of robots next spring, since I have the pressure side cleaner, I have a solution for now. If you have specific feedback on any of these I'd love to hear it.

I did email Polaris/Fluidra about my above question and I did get a response. According to Fluidra they're essentially the same, just that the 'Scout' is a store specific model. Here is their full reply for anyone else who might stumble on this:

Hello Chris,

Thank you for contacting technical and warranty support. The two models are basically the same aside from the body and color. As you stated the Epic also comes with a caddy while the Scout does not. There really are no other differences between the two except that you can only buy the Scout at Pinch A Penny.

Best Regards,
Harrison H

Marina Pools is selling the Aqua Products EVO 614 iQ, which also looks very similar to the EPIC 8642 iQ and the SCOUT 42 iQ. Do you have any information about this (apparent) sibling?

Thanks for pointing me to the TFP review.

I heard back from Fluidra. Expanding on the information above, they said that there isn't much difference between the 3 models:

Polaris EPIC 8642 iQ - $1600+ at local pool store, looks sexy, includes caddy, 3rd year warranty (possibly from the store, not Polaris)

Polaris SCOUT 42 iQ - $1150 only at Pinch-a-Penny, no caddy, 2 year warranty

Aqua Products EVO 614 iQ - $850 from Marina Pool & Spa, free shipping, looks dorky, no caddy, 2 year warranty

Looks like a caddy, if needed/wanted, is $130 from various sources.

There has been discussion in another thread about the EVO 614 iQ/604 (and SCOUT 42 iQ, EPIC 8642 iQ) picking up and retaining fine dust, especially in desert environments.

I checked with Polaris/Fluidra and there is a fine mesh basket available. The only place it appears on the Polaris web site is for the SCOUT, but it will fit in all the similar models.

P/N R0897800 - Fine Filter Canister
P/N R0898000 - General Purpose Canister (Comes Standard)

The Fine Filter Canister is $49 from Marina Pool & Spa. Seth also said that they would swap the General Purpose Canister with the Fine Filter Canister when initially purchasing an EVO 614 iQ/604.

Hi both,

I am looking at these two models and the Polaris VRX iQ+.

Did you make a selection and how are you finding the robot?

Thanks,
