Inline filters for pool vacuum

I'm looking for something that would help me to vacuum the dirt out of my pool without all of it going through my main filters. My pool uses a cartridge-type filter system as opposed to DE filters, so there is no backwash available - you have to completely remove the cartridge filters and hose them down. My main issue is not so much leaves as it is dirt. A local pool company suggested something like the Pentair leaf trap (see link):

Is there anything better on the market for catching dirt?
 
Just use a polypropylene hair net inside the leaf canister if it has a hard plastic strainer. I use the smaller Hayward style leaf canister with the hard plastic strainer and a hairnet. It catches all of the leaves, sand, bugs, dirt, etc. Works like a charm and the best thing is that the hairnets cost $10 for a pack of 100 on Amazon.
