Pentair Pumps that work with EasyTouch

Afternoon all, been a while but I am ready to go ahead and replace my blown pump but had a few questions for the experts @ogdento and others here.

I have

Pentair 011018 IntelliFlo Variable Speed High Performance Pool Pump, 3 Horsepower

I am looking for comparable to replace it with. I think @ogdento told me at least one version is not compatible with automation panels but I cannot find the information. Also, my pool being 17K inground, is 3HP right or can I go down to 1.5? I tend to go up but god the price now is ridiculous. Appreciate any help, I am ready to go. I have been running just on the timer off the pump but it does this odd thing where I go out to check at random times and it is not running but the schedule is on and it just shows 0 RPM. Hard to keep it clean that way especially with Summer coming.

thanks!

Any Intelliflo VS, Superflo VST or Whisperflo VST pump should work with your EasyTouch.

What were the speed settings you ran your 011018 pump at?

Sam,

I never, ever recommend a small (1.5 HP) VS pump over a large (3 HP) VS pump. The larger the pump the more water they can move at lower RPMs. The slower you can run it the less it will cost and the quieter it will be.

If you are looking for a drop in replacement, get the standard IntelliFlo, VSF.. The EasyTouch can also control the new IntelliFlo3, but it is not a drop in replacement as the plumbing locations are different.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hey Jim,
looking at the link for the standard Intelliflo and it has no HP specs. I looked up the first one on Pentair.com by part number and I cannot tell what the actual HP is. I don't know what THP, HHP, SFHP are. I did look them up. So is the HP here 3.95? Seem like a good price. Unfortunately, out of stock right now there.

looking further, this one is discontinued. I guess I should look at 011057?

Your current Pentair VS pump choices are:

  • Intelliflo3 at 3THP (Total Horsepower) 011075 although I recommend the 011077 with the touchscreen controls
  • IntelliFloXF at 3.95 THP 022056
  • IntelliPro VSF at 3.95 THP 013004
  • Whisperflo at 2.6 THP 011533

Sam,
The THP column is Total Horse Power.

If you like and want to keep on with 011018 although discontinued, there are some New Old Stock out there. You just have to find them. I have the same one and I had to replace mine last summer. I got my pump from ePoolSupply.com

Thanks,
I'd be tempted but I have had a mess with the one I have and trying to get parts was a mess. Ended up getting the wrong part and it cost me almost 800 only for it to fail weeks after with the same issue - communication to my easytocuh. Then it got worse with my schedule running at 0 rpm randomly throughout the day.

so i understand why, can you explain? i assume that is Safety Vacuum Release System?
Sam,

Yes..

I have an SVRS pump and it is a real pain..

The main problem is that "any" slight water surge will set it off.. You can't adjust how sensitive it is.. It will shut the pump off, and then (like it should) will restart the pump, the problem is that just restarting the pump will cause the water to surge and shut the pump off again, and again, etc..

I joke that if my next-door neighbor passes a little gas, it will shut my pump off.. It is not quite that bad, but close..

Running the pump 24/7 helps, but I have learned what not to do.. I know now to shut off the filter air vent valve very slowly. The same goes for any movement of my Jandy valves. I have to make sure the when I run my waterfall wall that the pool level is not close to being too low.

My pool builder said it was "Required".. I found out later that was all Bull Feathers..

IntelliFlo pumps are the 'Gold" standard for pool pumps, except for the ones with the SVRS option, they are more like the "Brown" standard of pumps, if you catch my drift... :)

If you don't mind doing a little plumbing, then the IntelliFlo 3 would be a great choice.. I'd get the one with the display, but if you never used your old display, then you don't really need one.

Thanks,

Jim R.

ah, yea as soon as you mention surge i got it. sounds like a bad idea and i am sure it'd do that to me! thanks for the information! as for the plumbing, i need to fix my drain valve anyways (froze during last freeze and its capped right now) plus i may "prepare" for a salt generator so it is easier when i get one.

Looking at the Intelliflo3 you mention two models. I found one that seems cheap but it is 011076. Looking at the specs it seems OK. Do you have any opinion? It is showing 2k on Amazon.

The 076 model has the IO Board but no display screen. That means any direct control of the pump beyond ON/OFF requires the use of the Pentair Home app on a phone. That means any of your family members, or guests, or pool service people who may need to do things in SERVICE mode with your pool will need their phone and the app setup. If that works for you then get it, if not then get one of the models that includes the display as it is less expensive to get it with the pump then add it later.

I love how they just use generic stock photos for it. and that is listed by pentair. I'd be tempted to go with that since I am connected to automation. Noone in my family will come close to it - they do use the app for my Easytouch. I do have a question on these. I see a WIFI antenna for the pump app I assume but I don't see a RS port to connect to my Panel.

RS-485 connector is in the electrical box with the power and IO board wiring connections.

They don't use a side plug anymore like prior Intelliflos. Now it is a connector like on the EAsyTouch.

I have bought an Intelliflo3 and other equipment from Polytec and it has always worked out well. Good people there with good prices.
