Thinking of using tabs to increase my cya. Every year going into summer my cya is really low. Due mostly to evaporation and back washing.

Question is, besides increase in cya from using tabs what else would be added to the water from the tabs?

Once my cya is around 50-60 I would use liquid only.

Tabs add acid and salt is addition to chlorine and CYA.

Where will the tabs be placed?

Remember evaporation only removes the water and leaves the CYA behind. So backwashing, splash-out, and heat are what’s degrades CYA.

Stay away from Xtra blue / blue anywhere on the label. That's copper. I would personally avoid all the 4 in 1s also.

Then your plenty in spec with the TFP rules

1) know where you are
2) know where you want to be
3) know what you're adding
4) know what it'll do
5) watch it do
6) I dunno. Go do anything else. Poolcare is a joke. Have a tasty beverage maybe.

Two years ago I bought 50lbs of tabs and fired pool boy. Two days later I discovered TFP. So I have a stash of tabs I will never use, except when I need to bump my cya up. I use a floater and make sure I’m ok with the pH and salt effects of the tabs before adding them. So yep, now that you know what’s tabs do and don’t do, use them when and if necessary.

Also, if I go out of town and my pool can handle a bit more cya, I’ll float some pucks….but swg installed yesterday so that will likely be a thing of the past!!!
