I am ready to plaster and looking for a smooth, darker pool surface - dark french grey or something with dark blue water. Color like a Kenai Grey or Silver Reef a Microfusion Midnight. However I can't figure out the right way to get there.
My PB says I need to tile if I want smooth but that ship has sailed. He has only done one or two Polishedscapes and had zero feedback or recommendations on them. I suppose he might do it if I press, but since the skill and experience of the applicant matters so much, I don't have faith in a high quality outcome. There have already been other issues I've had to deal with. He wants me to go with a pebble.
I've called a few plasterers who say different things:
- One used to do Hydrazzo but stopped due to product issues. They say they now polish Mini Pebble, however they have only done light colors like white and can't guarantee a darker color will work.
- A friend's PB says PolishedScapes and Quartzscapes are better, but recommends polishing Stonescapes because it "won't mottle" like the first two. He said Quartz can burn and create streaks so don't polish that one.
- I spoke with an NPT rep and they don't recommend polishing Stonescapes or anything except Polishedscapes, which are specifically formulated.
I've read the post that non-white plaster should use inorganic pigments for longevity, but haven't found a way to determine the type of pigment in a certain mix.
I've also read that lighter colors are the way to go, but my wife wants darker.
I've read every "polished" thread I can find on here multiple times, but it seems like such a minority of builds it's hard to get good info.
I'm about ready to give up on my dream of smooth and go with a darker micro or mini pebble and live with it. Anyone have any suggestions for me before I throw in the towel? Or an experienced plasterer/polisher in Los Angeles who can get me what I want?
