Permanent plugs for main drains.

You pretty much couldn't freeze traditional main drains. The entire pool would need to be frozen solid. (Although the plumbing once it leaves the bottom of the pool is fair game).

Is it still frozen @Trick ? Got pics ?

Is this a permanent above ground pool with pvc drains or an intex style pool?
Permanent.

I was thinking this same thing, how could it freeze? I initially thought my ball valve could be leaking, as in I filled the drain with antifreeze, shut the valve and it leaked past the valve and pushed the antifreeze out, but I seen no signs of this and when I opened the valve antifreeze pushed out.

And no pics cause I cant find anything interesting to take a pic of. no puddles, no wet spots, all looks fairly normal.

I've lost approx 10" over the winter. Water level is currently 16" below the return (winterized it at 6") . I made a mark on the current water level to see if its still losing it.

I do know my cover is on its last leg and has a few small holes. Water can easily pass through it. I can't see this being 10" of evaporation though.

I'll keep you guys posted and thanks for the comments.

Is it 1.5" threaded and could take one of these?

Unfortunately, for a main drain I'd suspect it's more likely it's the liner clamp seal that is leaking.

I'm doing my liner this year and thinking about installing a main drain for cleaning, but will probably chicken out for this reason again.
