I've tried 2 or 3 pool services but always ended up with a green pool. I can have a green pool for free. I have a 21,0000 gallon plaster pool with cartridge filters. It has a hot tub. It's also very green. I bought a test kit (TF-100) and here's what I've got:
FC: 0
Alkalinity: 100
CYA Test: 90
PH: probably 7.0 (looks like it's between 6.8 and 7.2)

I have a LOT of trees in my backyard and they drop all sorts of things into the pool. Pollen season has also hit the Houston area.

Any advice I can get would be appreciated.

I LOVE the way you think (y)

It's the method, not the kid they send. So many people go from service to service with the same results sooner or later, usually sooner.

Sweet !!

CYA Test: 90
Mix up a 50/50 batch of pool and tap water. Use that as your sample and run the rest of the test per normal. Double the result. 90+ is sketchy to decipher and it may be higher than 90 but fooling you.

We round up to the 10s, so save yourself the trouble and only pour to the 10s on the vial.

Ultimately you're going to need to
SLAM Process, but a SLAM at 80+ CYA is difficult and expensive. It gets worse at every 10 above that. First we need an accurate CYA level to know what FC you'll need to maintain, (confirmation of 90 with diluted test) and then you'll help yourself a ton by draining at least down to 60 CYA. It's directly proportionate as water does not have CYA naturally. So 90 down to 60 is a 1/3 drain, 45 is 1/2, etc etc.

How was the pool boy chlorinating the pool? 3" Trichlor pucks? How are you chlorinating (or planning to chlorinate) your pool? Do you have a Salt Water Chlorine Generator (SWG)? If not, you'll need to use liquid chlorine. Best deal for that is Pinch-A-Penny. There's one at the corner of W Lake Houston PWKY and Kingwood Dr. They sell it in 2.5G containers. You have to buy the containers first time, then they refill them for you and you only by the liquid chlorine (LC) after that.

Do the diluted CYA test as per Newdude's recommendation. You'll need to drain some water out of the pool and then do a SLAM, just as he said. Easy peasy, we got this!

You can rent this thing from Home depot and drain whatever percent of your pool quickly. I rented two on them and drained my entire 18000 gal pool in less that 4 hours on Tuesday :) (did an ascorbic acid treatment to get rid of iron staining, that's the only reason I drained it. If you follow TFP protocol, you'll never need to drain your pool because of poor sanitation issues)

They are available near you:
