Hey all,
I realized that I need a heater for my small pool that I built last year, not just to extend the season, but even to get it up to a nice temperature during the height of the summer. The pool is 9 x 13 and 4 feet deep. The plumbing pipes and the pool walls are all moderately insulated, so once I get some heat into this thing, it should stick around for a bit. I’m happy to use one of those bubble wrap style covers, which I have already, but I don’t get enough sun exposure to let the pool heat up on its own, even on sunny summer days.
Based on my research so far, it seems like a 30,000 BTU heat pump pool heater should be plenty big. I run my variable speed pump 24 hours a day at a low speed, which keeps the pool super clean and doesn’t use much electricity, so that seems to be a good situation for running a heat pump heater as far as I can tell… but please set me straight if I’ve got that wrong.
I’ve had my eye on these heaters by Raypak:
I liked it they are affiliated with Rheem, who makes high-quality heat pump water heaters for houses, but I found them for really good price online in a few different places. But I’m happy to hear feedback on other brands if anyone has any luck with a particular make and model.
Any thoughts on water heater choices and sizing?
