Hello new to the forum here so sorry if I make some mistakes in how it should be formatted. Anyways I cleaned my Pentair 2000 series and cleaned pump basket etc. when I turn the pool pump on to try and fill the filter so I can can get the lid back on top a trick someone taught since getting the lid on this series is a pain. The filter won’t fill with water and struggles to pump water in. The pump is filled with water and the skimmer and pool level are normal so I don’t think it’s sucking in air. Skimmer is also free from any debris. Any ideas?

If your pump is pumping, the filter will fill. Can you post a picture? I am confused why you need the filter to fill 1/2 way before you put the top on. Are you talking about the pump or the filter?

Mike made me look. The video here indeed shows the guy completely filling the filter with water before attaching the lid (actually more like a "cap"). Never having encountered this type of filter, I don't understand it either.

There must be an obstruction somewhere. Maybe while cleaning the pump basket, some debris passed into the impeller. With pump power off, reach in there and see whether you can feel any debris. Nothing? Maybe there's debris stuck in the pipe to the filter.

Check the position of the rotary backwash valve. It may not be fully in filter position.

(Some filters of that type, originally made by Purex, are very difficult to get the lid set so the clamp will go on.
Filling the tank first, then putting the lid on allows atmospheric pressure to assist in "pushing" the lid down as the water in the tank tries to siphon into the pool. Still at that, they are difficult. No pool tech likes to see one on a filter cleanout job.)

I agree with Rocky, the most likely suspect is a clogged impeller.

I would guess that you need to prime the pump by adding water to the pump pot, and check the pump lid o ring. I assume that if the pump was able to prime before, it's ok now. Having filter top sucked down is hard but it works. Be sure to totally lube the tank o ring, that helps a lot and close the air release valve on the top of the filter.
