I have been trying to find out why my controller box/transformer has been running so hot since my new 950 vsp was installed last week.

I replaced the transformer and still is hot. I was looking through the installation manual and stated the pump shoukd not be wired to the filter relays but directly to the breaker if using a compatible hayward controller.

Looking at my wiring, the installer didn't hook directly to the breaker but just connected to the line in of the relay. The two blue wires in the
picture below which go to the pump. I guess this would be the same as connecting directly to the breaker as the other black lines are coming from the breaker. Just looking for a reason for the additional heat.20180730_171957.jpg

Mike,

You are correct. Your pump is getting power directly from the circuit breaker.. In your case the "relay" is just being used a wire nut... :p

Transformers rarely go bad..

Get one of those cheap heat sensing guns and see if you can identify anything that is a lot hotter than any of the other components...

I have not seen any complaints of ProLogic systems running hot, so I suspect it is just normal, but not really up on ProLogic stuff..

Thanks,

Jim R.
