This is the design we are looking at but I do not like the step placement...any suggestions?

B,

I am not a fan of the angled steps as shown.. I would think the steps leading out of the sun deck would be all you need. I'd make the sun deck smaller if needed to make more room for the steps.

If you really need steps in that corner, I would run them parallel to one of the two walls.

One thought is to replace the angled steps with a bench seat.. This would allow most people to get in and out of the pool and provide a place to sit near the loungers.

The angled steps just look out of place to me, like they were added at the last minute.

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

Hi!
Your pool is similar to mine. Since my pool is only 13'6" wide, I didn't want to take up valuable real estate with bulky steps that project into the swim area. I'm also short, so I wanted low step height. Another consideration was not having a rail but wanting something to use for holding on to for balance. I ended up putting a st of stairs in the left corner hugging the pool wall. It doesn't take up a lot of space, the step height is like normal stairs and the deck serves as a hand hold.

I do like Nini's steps. If you did something like that, you may also want to run a bench at the second step level across that end of the pool, and even possibly wrap it around the corner some. What that concept does is provide in-pool seating that faces (more or less) the shelf. Otherwise, you have no place to sit in the pool and face the shelf for conversation (though that may not be a need/want).

Here's a picture of my pool for the bench down one end and continuing around the corner. Though I have no shelf for that part of the discussion.

The corner steps were added by the PB after the design was drawn. As for the steps coming off the sunning ledge, I worry how they would be done with the center of the pool being the deepest and sloping up towards each end of the pool.

I love the bench idea...

My original plan was to copy another member's steps, with a set of stairs coming off the ledge in either direction. We, again, did not end up doing that as it too up too much of the width of the pool. My depth profile is similar to yours, 3.5/5.5/4- there didn't seem to be an issue with this.

Another point, I wish I had gone with 4/7/4. The kids spend all their time jumping in and getting out to jump back in. My depth is NOT going to be good for that once they get a little older. Right now they are all 6 and under and we still have to herd them toward the middle for jumping. Even jumping in feet first in too shallow water can cause serious injury and paralysis. Just FYI.

These are Helen's steps (I still LOVE this!)IMG_7518.jpg
This was my original plan. Sadly, this drawing was nowhere close to scale. Had we gone this direction, my width would have been reduced to a little over 9 feet. Maybe it will work better for you since your pool is bigger.
