What is this? It is sand?

Just had the liner replaced. Water is crystal clear. Other than low CYA, chems are good. from the restart of the pool, the skimmer sock looked like the pictures. It takes about two days to look like that. I usually rinse it every day, but wanted it to gather a bit. It does NOT feel grainy when I rub it. I rubbed some off and put it out to dry, to see if it's fine sand. I'll check it tomorrow. The only place sand could have come from: my sand filter or the sand under the pool. The worker had water shoes, but he tracked send on the deck, which could have made it into the pool.

Pollen seems bad ever year now. This year, we opened the pool late, which probably save me a lot of pollen hassle. Still, this could be pollen.

thoughts?

I have a lot of trees just to the west of my pool and I get a lot of dirt, dust and debris from those. I use skimmer socks too and they sorta look like yours. Behind my fence, about 10 feet from the pool is designated wetlands that is privately owned. Nothing I can do about all the dead trees holding up dead trees.

I think that's a winner. In fact, we got a heater this year, because of how much neighbor's trees have grown in 7 years. Of course, I order a heater and my neighbor tells he he's getting two gigantic evergreens taken down! Still, we want to use the pool more, so the heater was the right call. I want gas out there for a new grill and fire pit anyway.

My heater has been there 24 hours and 3 tree needles have made it inside the darn thing already. I'm going to make a screen to cover the vents, without affecting airflow. I think you're right. It's probably dirt from the trees.
