Site Rules & Forum Etiquette]
We strictly enforce the rules below. Failure to abide by our rules can result in suspension or banning of your account. Please see our banning policy listed beneath the rules.
- Treat others how you would like to be treated. No one is above the rules. Always treat the next person with respect. You can dispute posts without disrespecting the poster. (Most of the other rules are directly related to this one.)
- No flaming or name-calling. Flaming is when you openly slam another member for no reason. We do not tolerate any sort of flaming, name-calling or personal threats.
- No public disputes between/among members. Take it to PM (private message). If you have a problem with another member, PM them. Do not settle disputes on the public forums. Abusive PM's will not be allowed under any circumstances.
- No baiting. Do not try to get a rise out of another member. This is considered baiting and is not tolerated.
- No discussion of 'touchy' subjects. This includes political and religious discussion. We pride ourselves on running the friendliest pool community online. Discussion of politics and religion does nothing but create tension between members.
- No posting of defamatory, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing or obscene messages or photos. (Likely to result in instant, permanent ban).
- No selling. Vendors interested in participating on TFP should contact SeanB, Site Administrator.
- Multiple accounts are not allowed. If you are found with more than one (1) account, you will be banned without a warning.
- Do not start a brand new thread discussing why the prior thread was locked.
Banning Policy
The banning policy is enforced upon ALL members
Depending on the violation, a member may receive:
- a written warning, or
- a suspension, or
- a permanent ban.
Forum Etiquette
The following is general forum etiquette that all members are asked to follow. While you may not get banned for not following these guidelines, we ask that all members do their best to comply as doing so will make for a more enjoyable group experience as well as creating less work for the moderators.
- Before posting a question (especially if it seems that it may be a common question), please use the search feature on the forum. Simply type in what you are looking for and click search. There's a good chance your question has already been asked and answered. Habitual disregard for forum etiquette may also result in a suspension of your account.
- No double posting. Double posting is posting the same post more than once in the same thread, or in multiple threads and forums. Asking your question in more than one area will not result in a faster response.
- No hijacking another poster's topic. Hijacking a topic occurs when a new poster asks about his problems in a thread already opened by another poster seeking help. If you have a unique problem, start your own thread. (see rule #1)
- Please do not PM the mods, admins or individuals with pool care questions. Posting on the forum will give your question greater exposure and the answer can benefit more than just one person.
- Move highly technical sub-discussions into the 'Deep End' forum. We try to keep the general areas at a level the average reader will find useful.
- When posting, try to post in the area that best matches your topic. You'll get the attention of those best able to help. Remember, "The Coffee Bar" and other areas are available for non-pool related topics.
- Please follow the normal rules for public writing. Avoid the use of fragmented sentences, typing in all lower case letters or in all caps, and frequent spelling errors. We don't expect perfection, but it only takes a moment to proof read and use a spell checker.
- When making a long post, be use paragraphs to break up the text as this makes it much easier for others to read.
- No animated / flashing avatars or signatures will be allowed. Too many on a page is distracting.
- There are no stupid questions - that is how we learn!
