Didn't see this posted anywhere else. Shows the hazards of cloudy water, among other things. Some of the things mentioned in this article are hard to fathom, especially given the high regard members of TFP have for their pool water. For the whole article, see http://abcnews.go.com/US/friends-woman- ... d=13979242 . A woman's body was found at the bottom of a public swimming pool in Fall River, MA after going unnoticed for two days. She was at the 12-foot-deep Vietnam Veterans Swimming Pool. Although the pool was open to the public, its permit had expired Dec. 31. Health inspectors visited the pool and reported that the water was cloudy and the head of the American Lifeguard Association told ABC News that cloudy water likely played a "major role" in the body's apparently going unnoticed. Lifeguards should always be able to see the main drain cover.

There has already been a long discussion of that incident here. From what I have read there were over 18 professionals involved who knew the condition of the water, had a legal duty to shut the pool down due to cloudiness before the accident happened, and failed to do so. And that is not even getting into the mistakes they made after the accident.

I heard from another news source that the automated chlorination has been malfunctioning and they were manually chlorinating. They were most likely using bleach but is it possible that they could have been using cal hypo? That could lead to some cloudyness. Maybe there was a big tear in their DE filter.
