Did the pool guy tear down the filter when he opened it? If not, you should really do that. I usually tear down the filter at the beginning of the season and again in late summer. I also backwash at least once or twice in between tear downs. Backwashing is cheap and easy. Teardown is pretty...

Just did a search and found this thread. I received my $225 rebate offer for the 3900 in the mail today. I have a appr 10 year old Polaris 280 that just won't die and was wondering if there was a good reason to upgrade. Apparently not.

The reason to go with the Jandy upgrade is that it uses the same Power Center, valve actuators, relays and wiring as your existing system. All that you will be replacing is the main board in the Power Center and adding a nice LCD control pad in place of your current indoor control pad.

If you shop around you can get the conversion kit for about $800. It is Jandy Part number 7092 and includes the PC Board, One Touch controller and two temperature sensors. Watch out. make sure that when you order the upgrade, the vendor sells you the latest revision (current Rev P). Later...

I just bought a new 120v Jandy Color Light w/ 100ft cable on ebay for $250 plus shipping. There are several more and a couple used ones for less than then.

OK. I called Jandy. They actually sell a chip only upgrade for my unit which is Jandy part number 8172. The funny thing...the chip by itself is about $1700. Needless to say, I ordered the 7902 for under $800 and will replace the PCB with the new one. Now I'll have an extra nearly complete...
