Crystal clear water - stubborn stain/algae

Just read about the pucks. Good times. While I wait for my new test kit to come in, should I SLAM my pool?

Crystal clear water - stubborn stain/algae

Water is perfectly clear. I use pucks in the skimmer basket and in-line chlorinator.

Crystal clear water - stubborn stain/algae

FC 1.5 PH 7.5 CYA 45 Hardness 160 Alk 90 The deep end of my pool has greenish/grayish stains or algae that cannot be brushed away. I tried an algacide and daily brushing but still nothing. We've had over 17 inches of rain this spring/summer in the event that has anything to do with it...

    DE - After backwashing...

Does length of time backwashing affect how much to add again? I'm wondering if I haven't been putting enough in because there seems to be a yellow-brownish growth on the floor in the deeper end of the pool.

It's a Nautilus NS 36 (reading notes of previous owner). Thanks for the help.

    DE - After backwashing...

Is it necessary to add more DE after backwashing? If so, how does one know how much to add? Thanks in advance.

    Pull out filter vs. Backwash

I'm experimenting here and after pulling out the DE filter, hosing it down, pushing the screen back "up," I ran the filter (again without DE) for about an hour before it went from 13 psi to 20. Could there be so much dead organic matter that it is still covering the screen, thus raising the...

    Pull out filter vs. Backwash

Is this the O ring found on the bottom of the metal canister that the filter rests on? I just opened mine and noticed that it broke.

    Pull out filter vs. Backwash

Thanks for the welcome and clarification. About an hour if I use only a pound of DE. I've found that if I use more than that, it "filters" too quickly. I was really surprised at how the screen on top of the filter compressed as if sucking in on itself. I just pulled the filter out, hosed...

    Pull out filter vs. Backwash

Thanks for the prompt response! It's cloudy, but not "sludgey." This is our 2nd year with the pool as it came with the house we bought. Last year, there was a ridiculous amount of sludge as the pool hadn't been opened in 3+ years. For the meantime, should I just suck it up and remove the...

    Pull out filter vs. Backwash

I have DE filter that does not take long to go from 13-15 psi to 20 and then beyond. When I remove the filter, the screen on top is depressed and algae and DE have collected on top of it. Is this likely causing the rapid rise in pressure? Instead of backwashing, should I just commit to...
