Milky water & white powder 2 weeks after AA treatment

Guess I should include the final resolution here for future reference. It was algae. After shocking and filtering 24/7 for a couple of days, the water cleared up. There was also some dark precipitate on the bottom of the pool during this which I vacuumed up once the water was clear enough to see...

Milky water & white powder 2 weeks after AA treatment

Also read through The Shock Process link, and maybe I'm being too impatient. I shocked just 8 hours ago, so I'll give the filter more time to clean up whatever this white stuff is.

Milky water & white powder 2 weeks after AA treatment

I have been using ZeoFiber in my sand filter since the pool turned cloudy, and I did shock this morning. Guess I'll go to Leslie's and get some clarifier.

Milky water & white powder 2 weeks after AA treatment

Followed the directions on this website for the AA treatment 2 weeks ago. FC was zero, ph 7.5, and added Polyquat before starting. Initial 1.75 lb dose in my 20,000 gallon pool removed most stains almost immediately, but I brushed and waited 24 hours to get the stubborn stains. Still some stains...

    Does bleach raise ph?

I've been using mostly Clorox bleach this season to chlorinate my pool. But it seems that every time I add bleach my ph goes up too. That means adding muriatic acid which I hate to do. Going to experiment with using Trichlor tablets for a while to see if my ph still goes up. TA is 110 and...

after acid cloudy water & won't hold chlorine

Fiber Clear hasn't done anything about the cloudy water. FC at 2.5 ppm. CC at .5 ppm. So I wouldn't think algae would be the problem. Alk at 85, Calcium at 190, and ph at 7.4. Anyone have any ideas?

after acid cloudy water & won't hold chlorine

Finally after adding about 5 gallons of bleach to my pool (in 3 quart doses), it started registering about 2 ppm chlorine. Water is still cloudy though. Adding Fiber Clear to my sand filter to see if that works.

after acid cloudy water & won't hold chlorine

They didn't mention a sequestrant or tell us much of anything because they just want to acid wash the whole pool to remove the ash stain left by ashes from a wildfire over the winter. They just did spot tests of ascorbic acid and another unknown acid in a sock or something held next to the stain...

after acid cloudy water & won't hold chlorine

Last week the pool plastering company sent a guy by to test removing a large ash stain from my pool. He successfully removed it in a couple of areas with ascorbic acid and some other acid, but a few days later I noticed that the pool water had become cloudy, the ph had dropped below 6.8, and...

    ash from wildfire stained pool

Shortly after I closed our in-ground pool last fall and put on the winter cover, there was a wildfire close to our house that put a lot of ash into the pool. I opened the pool a couple of weeks ago to find that at the deep end the ash seems to have stained our year-old Pebble Fina. I contacted...

    hairline cracks in skimmers

Not sure if they are leaking or not as there is no water in them now and probably won't be until I open the pool in April. Nevertheless I will check with the contractor to see what he has to say.

    hairline cracks in skimmers

I was just doing a mid-winter check of my skimmers and discovered several hairline cracks in them - very disappointing as they were just installed summer before last as part of a major remodel. I've always been careful to put a Gizmo in each skimmer when I winterize, and this winter they were...

    Pump sizing

I currently have a 25,000-gallon IG pool with a WhisperFlo WFE3 .75 HP pump installed in an underground vault about 4 feet below water level - although I just noticed that when the impeller was replaced on the pump 7 years ago, the repairman used a .5 HP impeller. So I'm probably only getting...

Plugging skimmer equalizer tube for winter

Neglected to mention that I refilled the pool after installing the plugs as required to support my winter cover and keep the new plaster covered with water as much as possible. Refilled to just below the tile line and main skimmer opening.

Plugging skimmer equalizer tube for winter

Just opened our in-ground, gunite pool which we had re-plastered last summer along with skimmer replacement. The skimmers have equalizer tubes with openings in the pool wall below the skimmers. When I winterized, I dropped the water level below these equalizer lines, blew them out, and capped...
