    SWG and bromine

I don't have any MPS. But I guess I could run the test you propose using hydrogen peroxide as the oxidizing agent, right? I'll try this out the next time I find the chlorine level undetectable. I'll report the results here. Thanks again Jason.

    SWG and bromine

What is MPS? Is it a reagent that's in my TFT-100 kit? Then after adding MPS, how do you measure bromine? With the standard OTO or FAS/DPD. Thanks your help.

    SWG and bromine

I bought a house this past winter and it has an in-ground pool. The former owners used bromine. I have been using chlorine, as guided by the advice on these forums. And the pool water looks and tests fine. Because we are away from the house for 5 days every week, I have had some challenges...

Keeping water balanced at a weekend house

Wow WorBro. You've been busy! If I try the experiment you propose, I'll be sure to come back here and post the results. Thanks again.

Keeping water balanced at a weekend house

tj, I'm sure you're right that a SWG is in my future. That would surely make all this easier. My current approach is to get through these next couple weeks till I can convince myself that I need to spend the money and do it. WorBro, I didn't know that polyquat had an effect on chlorine...

Keeping water balanced at a weekend house

I need some advice about how to maintain Cl levels all week long when we are only at the house where the pool is from Fri night till Sunday night. For the first 3 weeks, I ran the pump and filters and Cl feeder (Hayward) with Tri-Chlor 24/7. I am still working out how many Cl tabs to put in...

How to maintain chlorine levels during 5-day absence

Thanks Robbie and John T. I am encouraged that the Liquidator might solve my problem. I looked at the "manual" for the Liquidator and it doesn't say much about delivery rates. To deliver the 1 gallon of 6% bleach I'd need per day, do you have any idea how many hours I'd need to run my pump...

How to maintain chlorine levels during 5-day absence

These are excellent suggestions. Thanks to everyone. Mostly for simplicity and upfront costs reasons, a liquid chlorine feeder interests me. I don't know how much bleach I need per day to maintain Cl levels. With a 20,000 gallon pool in Rhode Island, would the larger size Liquidator hold...

How to maintain chlorine levels during 5-day absence

This past winter, we bought a vacation home with a pool. It's about 70 miles from our permanent residence. Most weeks, we'll only be at the vacation house weekends (from Friday evening till Sunday evening). So far, I have not been able to find a pool support person who can do mid-week...

    New owner--dealing with bromine

Thank you Jason. I got my test kit in the mail last night. Here are some numbers: 6/7 at 8PM TC=0, pH= <6.8, TA=150, CYA=0 So I added 5.7 gallons of 6% bleach (based on the "pool calculator"). I didn't have anything to adjust the pH with. This morning (6/8) at 6 AM: FC= 6.5 and CC= 0.5...

    New owner--dealing with bromine

I recently bought a house with a 20,000 gal in-ground pool. It's time to open it for the season, and I have never done that before. A local pool service company took off the cover, vacuumed part of the bottom (pretty gross), threw in 4 bags of chlorine-based shock and left. Two days later I...
