    Odor from drainage channels

The odors have been more prevalent since we installed a new ventilation system last fall; one theory a lifeguard has is that the drains are drying out more than they used to since the new system keeps the humidity significantly lower. It smells like sewage gas or stagnant water. I highly doubt...

    Odor from drainage channels

I run two indoor pools at a gym. We have been having strong odors coming from the drainage channels that run between the pool deck and pools. I've been spraying a mix of bleach and water into the drains 2-3 times per week but the odors return withing a day or two. Does anyone have any...

Drain fly larvae living in standing water on pool deck

I run 3 small pools at a fitness center and we recently discovered drain fly larvae (little black worm like things) living in standing water under benches on the pool deck. Any suggestions on the best method to eradicate these things? Our members are extremely demanding when it comes to...

    Foam!

Shocking and draining have not reduced the foam at all; it returns as soon as the water jets are turned on even if the spa has been drained or shocked the night before.

    Foam!

We get approxamately 50 bathers a day; the spa is fed using Pulsar Plus cal-hypo briquettes via a Stantrol automated HRR computer controler. I use powederd cal-hypo to shock once per week.

    Foam!

I run a two pools and a hot tub at a fitness center. The spa had foam issues about 4 years ago so we turned off the air blowers and now just run water jets. Since the air blowers were turned off, foaming has not been an issue until about 3 weeks ago it suddenly started foaming badly and I am at...

Sticky liquid seeping from side of Spa filter

I have a bizarre leak seeping from the side of the filter of the Spa I operate. The filter is a Neptune-Benson model # 36CCFG-2. I have sent pictures to the company that installed it and I am waiting to hear back from them to see if they have any idea what is going on but I am curious if anyone...

    Question about breakpoint shocking

I shock as needed (when my combined chlorine reaches 1.0 or higher) After shocking, the combined chlorine went up to 1.3 and has risen slowly since.

    Question about breakpoint shocking

Here's the numbers I had before I last shocked: pH: 7.5 Alk: ~80 Hardness: 450 Free Chlorine: 2.0 Total Chlorine: 3.0 (I don't test for CYA since it is illegal to use in NY for public pools) The pool is a 27,000 gal indoor therapy pool kept at 89 degrees. The shock I use is granular Calcium...

    Question about breakpoint shocking

Every time I try to breakpoint shock one of the pools I run (a 27,000 gal therapy pool), it seems the combined chlorine goes up not down after I shock it! This is the process I use to shock the pool: 1. Backwash the filters 2. use powdered Pulsar shock adding enough to bring the free chlorine...

Cleaning gunite pools - acid vs. liquid chlorine

Thanks for the advice! I have rust colored spots on the bottom of my pool that are definitely some sort of metal stains so I will definitely be doing an acid wash. I keep my pools within +/- 0.3 on the Saturation Index so I wonder if I need to look into a metal sequestering chemical to prevent...

Cleaning gunite pools - acid vs. liquid chlorine

I run two gunite pools at the gym I work at and I am planning on draining and cleaning them at the beginning of August. Last year when we drained them, we did muriatic acid wash for each pool. However, my general manager says that at the last place he worked (which also has gunite pools) they...

Problems with Lamotte ColorQ CH and fcl/tcl

I am having a couple problems with my Lamotte ColorQ tester: First, I just got new Calcium hardness reagents and my readings on all three pools I run have tripled! With the first set of calcium hardness reagents, the results were always close to the same as the results I got with my old Taylor...
