Going away for a week with 110F temps, what to do?

Great, thanks for the tip about CYA especially. I read in another thread that I should expect to lose about 3ppm per day of chlorine - is this about right for the AZ Summer?

Going away for a week with 110F temps, what to do?

Hi, I'm going away for 7 days in a couple of weeks and am wondering about the best approach to keeping my pool happy. The main complicating factor is that I live in AZ and temps get up to around 110F most days. As such, I'm adding liquid chlorine pretty much daily with my stabilizer moderately...

Thanks, will do, does the subscription fee for the pool math app go to TFP?

Pool stubbornly cloudy after refill and SLAM

Hi all, a quick update incase anyone else comes across this thread. I kept at it for a couple more days but cloudiness persisted so I followed Richard's advice and added DE to the sand filter. As predicted PSI rose pretty quickly (first batch needed backwashing in ~2 hours, then ~4 hours, then...

Unreliable PSI changes when adding DE to a sand filter

Thanks Maddie. This morning I backwashed again and this time I added 2 cups of DE. Still no initial PSI change, but PSI does slowly climb over the next few hours. It's definitely working (pool getting clearer, backwash water filthy) but I guess there's something odd about my filter/pressure gauge...

Unreliable PSI changes when adding DE to a sand filter

Following advice in this thread I have added some DE to my sand filter to improve filtration. However, the resulting PSI changes are inconsistent so I'm wondering if something is off. Here's the data: Round 1 Filter was initially at 12.25 PSI Added 1/4 cup of DE at a time until filter reached...

Thanks Tivo, I did not know that, I'll give it a go.

Pool stubbornly cloudy after refill and SLAM

Since changing the sand, and before draining the pool and starting on the TFP method, I've added a lot of powdered shock and a little of Leslie's "perfect weekly", but probably only 2 cups since changing the sand. Duraleigh, thanks, I'll keep brushing and filtering then. The FC dropped...

Pool stubbornly cloudy after refill and SLAM

Thanks! Sorry, I should have been clearer. The pump is absolutely running 24/7, but the dust in my pool has no problem settling on the bottom even with the pump running. Perhaps because we have only a skimmer and so poor circulation.

Pool stubbornly cloudy after refill and SLAM

Reporting back with photos Here's the shallow end: And the deep end (note you can just about see the capped main drain at the bottom, its more visible by eye) The pool is still pretty cloudy, and it failed the overnight chlorine test (dropped from 17ppm to 15pmm). It's had 24 hours at...

Thanks, yes, the skimmer-only is a total hassle. A previous owner cemented up the main drain so I assume it was leaking at some point. I do have a manual vac though need more practice getting it to work; whenever I connect it to the skimmer the pump loses prime, so air must be getting in to my...
