Since I had nothing to lose (since the salt cell was shot), I soaked it for hours with more acid, and there is still some calcium. So I think it is calcium sulfate. The long Texas summer, algaecide and the wrong shock did me in. I put it back on the pool but it probably is not working...

No, I don't use dry acid. Someone told me I am using the wrong shock, though. I was using calcium hypochlorite. I guess I need a new one. $$$

Well, as of today it is off. Maybe the pump burned out or it's just a tripped gfci. I also peeked at the pool and it is murky. I think they are learning the joys of new pool ownership. Thanks for the suggestions.

A piece of one of the pins is still stuck. I am afraid of breaking it. Will this dielectric grease help to get it loose?

Thank you; that was it. It was corroded, and part of one of the pins did break off. I will try to remove it, clean the connectors, and try to install the new cable.

I am trying to replace the cable. I watched a video and the tech removed the cover and the motor assembly, then gave a little tug and the cable came out. No such luck here. We are tugging and pulling and it is not coming out. Any advice? This is the video:
