    Clearing pool before adding cya

I never gave the results of my first year switch to BBB method. Worked great! no pink slime gunk in August like I had before. Once my CC went to zero, things went smoothly the rest of the year. Next move will be to a salt water pool!

    Clearing pool before adding cya

I think I am at 16 182oz jugs of bleach right now. Looking forward to finishing and getting my usage of chlorine down to more normal levels.

    Clearing pool before adding cya

Thanks Jason! It was clear before I started adding chlorine so it is not like it started out yellow. Also don't think we have any metals in our water. This could be caused by residual baquacil to I suppose and I thought I was close to converting last fall, but did not have the TF-100. So I'm...

    Clearing pool before adding cya

OK, CYA is in. Put an old t-shirt in the skimmer basket and added the CYA in there. It was all gone within a few hours. Been keeping it at shock level of 15 with cya at 40. Pool definitely has a yellowish cast. Should I be worried about this color? It's almost the same color as the bleach...

    Clearing pool before adding cya

Ok, that makes more sense. It's been cloudy and drizzly here the last few days so not too much chlorine loss due to sun! Did not realize the cc build up though and how CYA helps with that. The pool calc says to add 5 lbs to get me up to 40 so I will add shortly. Thanks Jason!

    Clearing pool before adding cya

Why is it easier to clear up if you have some CYA in it? I thought the chlorine would be the most potent without any and that is why I was going to wait. Can you explain your reasoning? I must be missing something.....

    Clearing pool before adding cya

Looks like my FC and CC numbers go squeezed together. First number is FC and 2nd is CC. Sorry.

    Clearing pool before adding cya

I'm trying to clear up my pool before I add the cya just so I don't have to backwash the filter for the one week. Because I have no CYA currently, keeping a shock level of 10 is still fine for the liner and everything right? I mean you have shock of 15 when you are doing the baquacil...

    FC and solar blanket

Outdoor pool. I just received 12 lbs of cya yesterday. I'm shooting for a cya of 40 when I add it.

    FC and solar blanket

What would you say is the upper limit for FC to leave the solar blanket on a pool? Another words, if I get my FC up to 6 and leave the cover on am I safe? How about 8 or 10? I would think nothing over 10 would be good but what do you think? CYA is 0.

    sand in pool

I dumped all of the sand again and the laterals looked good of course. Took everything back to the pool store and have replacements for all of the guts inside the filter. Gave me more free sand too!! Will be trying again tonight. I'm guessing there is a leak where the riser pipe goes into...

    sand in pool

The filter I have needs 250 lbs so I put in 5 bags 50 lbs each. I did not add water first but it comes with a cover that goes over the stand pipe so that sand does not go were it should not. I stopped by the pool store and they now think it is definitely in the hub or stand pipe portion. I'm...

    sand in pool

Definitely sand on the bottom. No question about it. The laterals I took out this spring looked fine. We replaced them anyways with a new set and filled with new sand. Still sand getting back into the pool. Scratching my head. Oh, yes I did backwash after adding new sand and then put it on...

    sand in pool

I'm having trouble with my sand filter spitting sand back into the pool. It is a 250 lb waterway filter I believe. Got it new last year and it spit sand back into the pool. Dumped the sand last fall as I figured I would need to replace laterals. Pool store gave me new laterals this spring...
